CAHLFS Trash @HSNCT (5/26)

Post by MorganV »

Loyola Academy is pleased to announce CAHLFS (Competitive Amusements Hosted by Loyola For Scratch), a housewritten open trash tournament held in conjunction with Midwest Championships at Northwestern.

It will consist of 10 rounds of tossups only with no bonuses, according to the following distribution:

4 Sports
4 Music
3 Movies
3 Television
2 Videogames
4 Other (Comics, Trash Lit, common links, etc)

For this tournament, we're aiming for medium difficulty: The questions will be difficult but we're hoping for the majority to be convertible.

We will probably be hosting this Saturday night of HSNCT.

To sign up simply express interest here or email me:[email protected]

Im sure that the members of "Something Ambiguous A" would love to play this. Also, since this is open, will college players be eligible?

Yup, anyone will be able to play except colby, and people can form free agent teams or whatever.

As the actual official executor of this event, Colby will be allowed to play if he so desires. We will not be turning away anyone. As Morgan said, if you want to play, but don't have a team, then you should post here or send Morgan an email, and we can get you onto a team.

Checks can be made out to Loyola Academy, and we will provide invoices to teams if they are needed.

That means we can expect CAHLFS to start around 7pm. We will play 10 rounds of tossups only. We will most definitely finish before 10. Teams should sign up for this with more conviction. After the finals are done, we will begin taking pizza orders for those who want to chip in on that (or maybe some sort of other delivery option, depending on what staffers will be fed during the tournament proper).

I told staffers in my email that I was doing pizza on Saturday and Jimmy John's sandwiches on Sunday. I'd have no problem switching those two if you want to order pizza for CAHLFS.

I was thinking Jimmy John's for Saturday night. Are there any other options that would do delivery close by? Does Chipotle or something?

I remember Chipotle at PACE, so probably?

When does registration for this close? I assume, like all good side events, "five minutes before it starts, unless it reaches the field cap?"

Thank you so much to all the teams that came out to play this! I hope you all had fun. If anyone would like to mirror this tournament, it will be available for mirrors for the remainder of this season. We are also considering running some sort of shootout or something for this at HSNCT Saturday night if people are interested in that. Stats are posted here: http://hsquizbowl.org/db/tournaments/99 ... l_results/

We are currently working out playing this on Saturday night. The DBZ side event is running the same night and there is some overlap of people, so we are trying to figure out the best way to time it.

Then I'm tentatively a free agent for this, provided that it a) doesn't interfere with the DBZ event and b) doesn't interfere with QB basketball.

CAHLFS will begin at 8pm on the Atlanta Conference Center level of the hotel. We ask that teams arrive at 7:45pm if possible so we can draw brackets and get things started. We will post the exact rooms and meeting place when we get to Atlanta in a few hours. Also, this will cost $10 per person, if that wasn't clear.

Posting this on behalf of moderator and Orlando-resident extraordinaire Luke Rego, there is interest in adding a Luke Rego Deathsquad to the field if possible. Not sure who all will comprise the probable team (most likely Luke, Mark Prather, Alex Rego, and myself). We'll be down in the ACC around 745 to discuss.

Stats are mostly up now temporarily at http://hsquizbowl.org/db/tournaments/841 until the finals are added and any other necessary changes are made (and I can get Morgan to upload them to their actual db page as opposed to this one).

The top 2 from each prelim bracket advanced to the top bracket, middle 2 to the middle bracket, and last 2 to the bottom bracket by wins then ppg. The game played against the other team that advanced from one's prelim bracket to one's playoff bracket carried over (in order to play less games and finish earlier). Thus, while Flying Space Pimps and The Spoiler Team were both 7-2, Flying Space Pimp's loss to ODBs effectively did not count and they went on to play in the finals against Bonus Smalls. The finals game is not input yet into the stats, but if my memory serves me correctly, the Flying Space Pimps won.

But yes, the Flying Space Pimps (Tressler & Co.) were the winners. Had I known I would be so critically important, I'd have stuck around for DeKalbastan.
