Correction: Berkeley will be following directions posted in the original MUT thread and emailing [email protected] to actually ask if they can host a mirror, and not just announcing that they are hosting one. Simply declaring that you are going to is not how hosting mirrors of tournaments works.

Berkeley contacted me and I gave their approval. You tacitly gave approval in the main MUT thread and I was under the impression Gaurav and I were handling most of the mirror duties from now on. Sorry for not running it by you.

In Berkeley's defense, viewtopic.php?f=8&t=12309#p238141 was likely interpreted as assent to a Berkeley mirror, though obviously the formal procedures should have been followed if they were not.

There were still items that I wanted to clarify with Berkeley about their mirror, such as what teams would be allowed to attend their site. Mike apparently has decided to be in charge of mirrors now, so he can decide how much he wants to step all over Claremont's toes and give them a crappy mirror.

Apologies to Claremont as that certainly was not my intention. My California contacts assured me that there was a definite split in circuits between northern and southern California teams that should not result in major field overlap.

To ensure Claremont an adequate field, I will advise teams closer to Claremont (Southern California etc.) teams to go to the Claremont mirror. I will ask the TD at Berkeley to (within reason) attempt to steer teams closer to the Claremont site to attend the Claremont site.

Tanay, can you please try to ensure that your field is primarily noCal teams that are not closer to the Claremont site?

Yes. The notion of a Southern California team picking the Berkeley mirror over the Claremont mirror is absurd. I'm not going to step into this argument/misunderstanding/whatever, but to say that at this point, I have only contacted schools that are within about 50 miles of Berkeley. As Claremont is a little over 400 miles from Berkeley, I anticipate no problems in this regard.

Great, thank you. Again, apologizes to Claremont for any misunderstandings--I believe that with these concerns in place, the fields should not overlap.

Stanford is interested. We have some logistics to work out with respect to transportation, but I think we'll manage to bring at least one team.

I'm glad this was resolved via intra-team correspondence!

This happened. After 10 preliminary rounds, Berkeley A was 9-1 (with one loss to Stanford) and Bellarmine A was 8-2 (with two losses to Berkeley). Berkeley lost its advantage after Bellarmine took the first game of the final, but Berkeley won the second game to take the tournament. Congratulations to Bellarmine A for doing so well with only two players, to Bellarmine B for producing great results as a young team, and to Stanford for their impressive performance. Top scorer awards were given to Benji, Nikhil, Ankit, and Hiep.

Thanks to Mr. Fleitas, Jeff Hoppes, and Brian Alford for moderating. Thanks to Mike and the others at Minnesota for allowing us to mirror this excellent set. It was certainly enjoyable for everyone involved.
