Kings Park Annual Quizbowl Tournament II
Kings Park will be hosting our second annual Quizbowl tournament on April 21st 2012 at Kings Park High School in Kings Park, Long Island, New York. Kings Park is located centrally on Long Island’s north shore, and is a convenient travel for any Long Island school.
TOURNAMENT INFO:
**Date: Saturday April 21st 2012
**Location: Kings Park High School (200 Rt 25A, Kings Park, NY 11754)
**Time: Registration opens at 7:00am, first round starts promptly at 9:00am. Breakfast will be served in the cafeteria between these times.
**Cost:
First Team: $70
Additional Teams: $60
Copy of Questions Packet (IS114A): $15
**Discounts:
Experienced Moderator: -$10
Functional Buzzer System: -$10
**Rounds: Based on attendance, teams will be bracketed evenly. Ideally, five guaranteed preliminary rounds will be played through a round-robin with each team in one's bracket. This will be designed to maximize the number of guarantee rounds. At the end of the preliminary rounds, teams will be re-bracketed based on Win-Loss record and then by points per game to break any ties. Teams should also break for lunch around this time.
**Games: We will be using NAQT IS114A, according to NAQT rules, untimed.
**Teams: Teams per school is capped at 4, with a maximum of four players per team with an optional fifth player for in-game substitutions. Players may only sub during the half (after the first ten questions) or at the beginning of a new round in order to facilitate stats.
**Playoff Format: The Top 16 teams will most likely be bracketed into two brackets for a Single-Elimination Final. Although, it is also likely that a two bracket round-robin, ending in single elimination final rounds will be used, depending on the number of teams present.
For teams that wish to stay but did not make the finals, we WILL be organizing a Consolation Bracket. This will be a round-robin style bracket however stats will not be recorded for consolation rounds.
**Statistics: Will be compiled in SQBS. Team stats will be projected in Room 101 at the end of each Round. Individual stats will be posted in the hallways in between rounds.
**Update: Teams that finish in the top 15% will qualify for PACE National Scholastics Championship in St. Louis
Question/Interest: For additional information please email Rob Celeste (Coach / TD) at [email protected] or to express interest in the tournament, please respond to this thread or PM me.
Additional Information will come as the tournament approaches!

I am now going to slightly derail this thread to ask:
Is anyone reading this interested in hosting the New York NAQT championship? The best weekend would be 4/14 (ie, the week before this tournament and the same week as New Jersey states). Please email me if your school would be interested in hosting!
Edit 2/22: Stony Brook has expressed interest in this --JTH

Will the computational math questions be read? At HHHW, they were taken out without any pre-tournament announcement. Some students came that would not have come otherwise, and in more than one close game, such a question could have made a big difference for us.
We'll come either way, we'd just like to know ahead of time.

Is it really worth it for these players to come just so they can play on a single, very bad tossup a game? If they really wouldn't come to quizbowl otherwise, then maybe this game isn't for them.

The first 20 Tossups of a particular packet will be read regardless of the category. So to answer your question, computational math (or any category for that matter) will be read.

Update: Teams that finish in the top 15% will qualify for PACE National Scholastics Championship in St. Louis
PACE, the Partnership for Academic Competition Excellence, has affiliated our tournament with their National Scholastics Championship taking place on the weekend of June 9th-10th at Washington University in St. Louis (see http://www.pace-nsc.org/?p=1615). This means that the top 15% of teams competing would be eligible to qualify for the National Scholastics Championship. Full guidelines on how qualification works can be found at http://www.pace-nsc.org/?p=1612.

Irvington will be able to come with 1 team, 3 buzzers and 0 coaches/moderators of any sort. (The registration form said the deadline was today...if that is not a hard deadline, a second team may be brought depending upon what we find once our Spring Break is over)

Congrats to Irvington, who won this on literally the last question of the game. Very exciting game against TriBeCa, I thoroughly enjoyed modding for this whole tournament.
One note on stats:
Top 4 were:
1. Irvington A
2. TriBeCa A
3. Great Neck South A
4. Half Hollow Hills West A
Rounding out the top 8 were:
Kellenberg A
Valley Stream South A
St Anthony's A
Port Jefferson A

Re: KPAQT II, Long Island, NY - April 21, 2012
A second great tournament by Kings Park! My only real regret is that we weren't able to bring another team or two. The final WAS intense, although technically not as close as our previous matchup with Irvington, which we ultimately lost by 10 points. (The score was settled with the rescinding of a tiebreaker which we won, due to the fact that the original scores had been improperly taken and we had not actually been tied. Which means we actually scored the same number of points in playing each other, even if ten of ours didn't count. They're a great team.)
Also, it's great that you got the stats up so quickly. My name is given as "Starford", though, and Lavinia's as "Lawnia". Those are both pretty neat changes, actually.
Oh, and we left the packet set we bought there...
