Waylon Jennings Memorial @ Ohio State (5/12/12)

Post by penforprez »

Greetings everyone,

I would like to cordially invite all of you to the Waylon Jennings Memorial Tournament, to be run by me, Paul Nelson, at Ohio State on May 12. This tournament will serve as a pre-nationals tuneup for teams from Ohio and other states. DCC A and Culver have expressed interest, and I am seeking top teams from other states. For those of you planning to attend NASAT at Ohio State in June, this will give you a great opportunity to explore the campus and the Columbus area before the big event.

My goal is to have one of the most competitive fields in the nation going head-to-head in time for the crucial nationals season. Any team from any part of the country who has qualified for a national tournament is more than welcome to come. This tournament will use NAQT's Division II College Sectionals set, which is one difficulty level below HSNCT, so the questions will be a good challenge, just like the field. Rounds will be 20/20 untimed, with powers, negs, and no bouncebacks.

Depending on the final field size, teams will be bracketed for preliminary rounds, followed by a rebracket for playoffs after lunch. More details will be announced at a future time. The field will tentatively be capped at 16 teams, with expansion dependent on finding sufficient numbers of capable staff. Space will be limited, so I recommend signing up immediately.

Costs:

$65 per team
-$5 for a working buzzer (one per team).
-$10 for an experienced moderator.
-$10 for teams traveling more than 200 miles one way.

Payment: Cash or check on tournament day is preferred. Other arrangements are perfectly acceptable.

To register: Just email me here at [email protected]. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. I'm always glad to hear from quizbowl people!

I look forward to seeing all of you in Columbus in May!

I just posted a much-needed field update; being a grad student, I have to do some of that pesky homework on occasion! I've had four teams sign up in the last 24 hours, and the field is now filling fast. If you want in, please let me know. If you have any questions, I'll be glad to help.

Due to conflicts, the set for Waylon Jennings has been changed to the RAVE housewrite from the good kids at Rockford Auburn. For those of you signed up, I owe you an email, and I'll try to get that out this evening.

EDIT: Upon seeing these in the OP - it's likely we'll bring two teams, if that improves your grimoire of information by any minuscule amount.

Sounds good. Do you guys know about when you could confirm? I'm down to four spots for now.

OT: I was down your way just a couple of weeks ago. I did a long detour on the Mountain Parkway through Salyersville (I couldn't believe how torn up Salyersville was from that tornado!) and then 194 through the mountains of Floyd County. I LOVED it! I'm dying to go back!

As soon as we can confirm that it doesn't conflict with the possible College Heights rescheduling at WKU and finalize everything with our coaches, which should be about this coming Wednesday at the latest.

DCC A and B are now both confirmed. Six of the top 31 teams in the country are now confirmed or interested. This is going to be a really good show--you won't want to miss it!

A pity because it runs into our prom weekend. As such, I believe three-quarters of our top four as well as our coach/transportation chief will be indisposed.

[Honestly, I think if QB gods exist they have been looking on us with scorn for no particular reason since about November.]

The field is:

Olmsted Falls and WGH dropped, so we're down to 9 teams.

Looking at the teams and taking them out gives me more than nine. What's the field for tomorrow?

Solon I think dropped, and I, along with several members of my team, wanted Fisher to go but I have a prom conflict. Insert St. Charles, and that's nine (correct me if I'm wrong, Paul).

So DCC A went undefeated and cleared the field, followed (IIRC) by Northmont and DCC B. Read for some great teams today; thanks to Paul Nelson (and Jarret) for getting this together.

So, I have to ask; why did Idrees from Dunbar only play the first 5 games?
