How did you start a team?

Post by Coldblueberry »

Hi,

I'm currently in high school. Our coach has expressed interest in starting a team in the feeder middle school. Additionally, my younger sister will be attending that school 2011-2012.

The existing league in the area is a bad-question league without a middle school section. To start this team with "good" questions, practices and matches would pretty much have to be intramural and use CMST over and over. (NAQT's starter package seems really expensive without an actual inter-school league and I have no idea about money from the administration.

How did you guys start middle school teams?

If you're talking about CVMS, when I went there, my friends apparently were involved with an academic team of some sort that practiced on buzzer beater questions. I have no idea if they played tournaments. I never learned the details, but there might be such a club still around there. In addition, UCSD is thinking about hosting a middle school tournament, and the existence of a definite middle school team would make that an easier goal to accomplish.

I went there too...a club definitely didn't exist. Maybe you could help convince the administration to buy 69 packets for 97 dollars (if the "starter package" doesn't include the $20 set). Then with CMST I and II, and maybe some IS A sets and NAQT speedchecks, something could be worked out.

EDIT:

Oh look: http://www.sdcoe.net/events/SAC%20brochure.pdf

There's an East County Academic Bowl for 6-8.

I'm not entirely sure what's going on in this sentence, but: the "new middle school package" includes Middle School Series #1 and features a total of 38 packets for $69.

2011 New Middle School Package 41 $69.00

It says 41.

Also, I assumed it didn't include Middle School Series 1.

So, 41+10+18 is 69.

Maybe it counts the frequency lists as packets? I'll look into it.

Note that the 18 packets of the 2011 MSNCT are already included in the new middle school package.

According to your link, the 41 comes from 18 MSNCT + 10 MS#1 + 10 SC#28 + 3 pages of Frequency Lists.
