The Vermont-NEA Scholars’ Bowl is pleased to announce it will hold its second Pre-Holiday Academic Tournament -- PHAT II: Bigger and Better -- on Friday, December 5, at South Burlington High School in South Burlington, Vt. This tournament is open to all interested high school teams and will be played on NAQT questions (Set IS-80A).
The tournament will also serve as a PACE NSC qualifier.
The event drew 28 teams from four leagues in Vermont, New York and New Hampshire in its inaugural edition last year, and we’re hoping to attract a bigger and broader field this time around.
The format will follow official NAQT rules except that rounds will be time-limited and all matches will be capped at 20 tossup-bonus pairs. Teams will be guaranteed at least six matches though an effort will be made to maximize the number of rounds, with a target of eight matches for all teams.
The tournament entry fee is $30 per team and schools will be initially limited to a maximum of two teams. Additional teams will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis if the number of rooms and readers available allows it. The registration deadline is December 2.
Interested teams should note that participation might require them to leave school early. Check-in will be held from 3:45 to 3:55 p.m. and matches will begin promptly at 4:15 p.m. The competition will end at approximately 9:15 p.m.
The full invitation and details can be found on our Web site, http://www.scholarsbowl.org.
