Novice Tournament?

Post by Coach Jim »

Are any schools on the East Coast planning on hosting a novice tournament this fall?

UVA is strongly considering hosting an event on NAQT's Collegiate Novice set sometime in the fall semester. Persons with plans to host a novice event elsewhere in the state of Virginia should probably drop us a line in order to hammer out geographical details and the like. A forum announcement will appear once details are finalized.

ACF Fall is being held at both Maryland and Virginia Tech this year.

While it's not exactly a novice event, I encourage any and all new teams to play the Early Fall Tournament, a tournament designed to provide an introduction to the "full-on college tournament" experience. What this means is that tossup questions will be on accessible topics (enforced with both quotas and careful editing) and bonus difficulty will be tempered relative to standard tournaments, but strong players and teams in the local area are encouraged to play as well. The closest EFT location to Liberty should be the mirror at the University of Maryland, College Park on October 8th.

ACF Fall is also a low-difficulty, high-quality and accessible tournament - I would encourage any and all new teams to try their hand at ACF Fall.

Thanks, Will. Duke is actually a little closer for us, and we don't have to fight the DC traffic, so we are planning on taking 3 teams to the EFT in Durham.
