Pre-Nats Poll

Post by Cheynem »

With the college nationals about to begin soon, the third college poll will now be commenced.

Please do not post ballots in the thread, but feel free to ask questions about player eligibility, team formation, etc.

Do not vote for high school teams. You can vote for B teams. Ballots must contain 25 teams. E-mail them to me at chey0004 AT umn DOT edu.

I reserve the right to throw out ballots that are obviously joke or too eccentric.

Voting closes on March 23, the Monday of the week of ICT.

Remember you are voting based on how the best possible (but still realistic) team would do at a hypothetical nationals-like tournament.

For reference, last poll results:

1. Virginia Cavaliers
2. Penn Quakers
3. Chicago Maroons
4. Maryland Terrapins
5. Stanford Cardinal
6. Michigan Wolverines
7. MIT Dragon Beavers
8. Columbia Lyons
9. Harvard Crimson
10. UCSD Guptas
11. TIE between WUSTL Alligators and Yale Bulldogs
13. Alberta Canadians
14. Illinois Fighting Illini
15. Georgia Tech Yellowjackets
16. North Carolina Tar Heels
17. Minnesota Golden Gophers
18. Berkeley Golden Bears
19. Brown Bears
20. Dartmouth Dragoons
21. Northwestern Wildcats
22. William and Mary Royals
23. Stanford Cardinals B
24. MIT Dragon Beavers B
25. Chicago Maroons B

I presume you don't want/allow ties?

Also, I suspect given that this poll is about how well teams are doing at national tournaments that it is worth looking at which teams are in the fields for each national while deciding who to add to ballots:

I don't want people to VOTE with ties (i.e., sending in ballots that have two number twos), but obviously if the numbers result in a tie, I won't break it or anything.

There aren't a ton of ballots in, although I know there are a lot of things going on right now, so I can understand why. Just a reminder that if you have a chance this weekend or whenever, send one to me before Monday night.

I will probably not be able to write a pre-Nats preview article or help run a preview IRC chat this time around. If someone else wants to do so I might be able to briefly sprinkle the end product with levity and wit.

Now that things are slightly calmer, and because I'd find it oddly relaxing/fun, I suspect I'll be able to do a poll rundown/ICT Recap/ACF Nats preview article for the http://hsquizbowl.org/blog "front page". Tone would be "whimsical but conveying actual content". Due to time constraints it would focus largely/exclusively on the ICT top 8, plus particularly dominant teams that weren't at ICT, plus a few UG and DII contenders. Expect to see it no earlier than April 14 or so.

EDIT: This probably won't happen. I'll do what I can to get the most important part of this preview out there before my trip to Nats begins, though.

EDIT: definitely will not happen because my laptop charger just died and said part of the preview is stuck on hard drive. (This is from my phone.) Will figure out how to retrofit said important part so it still makes sense after Nats.
