Call for an open tournament following the NSC

Post by Mike Bentley »

With the NSC being on Memorial Day this weekend and the NSC taking place in a hotel, PACE is looking to set up an open side tournament following the NSC. We have a set of hotel suites available for use as game rooms following the awards ceremony on Sunday, 5/25 and all day on Monday, 5/26.

Since PACE is working to make the NSC set as polished as possible, we will not be producing this tournament ourselves. However, we welcome any enterprising editor out there to submit a bid for the spot. To submit a bid, e-mail me at [email protected] with the following information:
1. Tournament Name
2. Editor(s)
3. Subjects
4. Target number of rounds
5. Target difficulty
6. Packet submission or house written
7. Anything else we should know

There aren't any formal requirements on what these tournaments look like. You are welcome to put in a bid for a house write or a packet submission event. You can write either a general tournament or a subject tournament. You can charge what you want for this event--PACE will not take any cut.

Our preference will be for a general-interest tournament somewhere between Regionals + difficulty and summer open difficulty. The Emergency, a tournament run following the 2009 NSC, fell into this category and was well received. The two Gaddis tournaments were also well received.

It may be possible to run multiple events in this spot depending on the number of bids received and the target length of the tournaments. We imagine that the primary side tournament will take place on Sunday night and may extend into Monday depending on its length.

Note that PACE will not be running any side events on Friday or Saturday. If individuals want to set up their own events at this time they will need to do so using their own equipment and own rooms--game rooms will not be available.

I offer the Modern World Tournament as an open tournament for the NSC. Hopefully, I'll be in attendance as well.
