The University of Guelph is pleased to announce that we will be hosting a mirror of the University of Minnesota's Undergraduate Tournament (MUT) on March 13, 2010. We are excited about the prospect of hosting a spring novice tournament, and hope to make this an annual tradition for the region of Central Canada.
LocationThe tournament will take place in the MacKinnon Building at the University of Guelph campus in Guelph, ON. All games will take place on the second floor, however we are asking teams to please meet in Room 117 of MacKinnon when you arrive on campus.
QuestionsThis is a packet submission tournament of novice difficulty (similar in difficulty to other recent novice tournaments) edited by members of the University of Minnesota Quizbowl. Teams attending this mirror are not required to write a packet, but certainly may and are encouraged to do so for discounts outlined below. If you are interested in writing a packet, please refer to the packet submission information outlined in
this post. Participating teams are encouraged to refer to last year's edition of the Minnesota Undergraduate Tournament for difficulty, which can be found
here on
Christian Carter's packet archive.
Side EventsWe'll be hosting Will Nediger's Mildly Experimental Literature Doubles (MELD) tournament as a side event to MUT.We hope that MELD, which will surely be awesome, will entice some of the graduate students who are ineligible to play MUT to come to Guelph, and will serve as reward enough for the older players who are driving their younger teammates to this tournament.
EligibilityOnly undergraduate (and high school) students can play this tournament. If you are a grad student, you cannot play this event. Teams of high school students certainly may participate in this tournament, for significant discounts, and are urged to do so if they are interested in participating in a well-written tournament of this difficulty level.
