The University of Michigan quizbowl team is pleased to announce that we will be hosting a collegiate quizbowl tournament on March 17, 2018. As usual, the tournament will be held in Mason Hall, and will begin at 9AM, with registration beginning at 8:15AM. The tournament will likely be directed by some combination of me and Collin Parks.

Question Set and Eligibility
The tournament will plan to use the Florida Spring Tournament set, which will be of Fall difficulty or slightly easier.
Any undergraduate is automatically eligible to play. If non-undergraduates wish to play, they should contact me for approval.
Dual-enrolled high school students are eligible to play for the college at which they are taking classes, regardless of whether they are seeking a degree from that college (that is, we are being less restrictive than the official ACF/NAQT rules).
This is a closed tournament; teams must consist of students from one institution.
High school teams should contact me to ask for approval to play. They are not automatically eligible. It is highly likely that high school teams will be told to wait until closer to the tournament before registering, and will be allowed to play if there is still room in the field.

Fees and Payment
$100 base fee per team
-$5 per functioning buzzer set (which must have at least eight working buzzers with lights)
-$10 per competent staffer (we reserve the right to turn this down if it's not necessary; the odds of us doing so will be higher the closer to the tournament date you register)
-$10 per 200 miles travelled one-way to the tournament
-$50 if your school sends one team and it consists of one or two people
Please pay by cash or check on the day of the tournament. We can provide invoices if you require them. If you must mail a check in advance, please let us know in advance of the tournament.

Registration
Please fill out this form to register for the tournament. No other forms of registration will be accepted -- if you attempt to register by emailing, posting in this thread, etc. you will be either ignored or told to fill out the form, depending on how busy we are when you do so.
There is a field cap of 12 for the tournament.

Miscellaneous
We will run my visual geography tournament, Entirely Real Landscapes, after the tournament is over.
We will not be providing meals (except to staffers), but there is a plethora of excellent food-serving establishments close by to Mason Hall.
In light of this thread, we will not be restricting anyone's eligibility for this tournament based on political statements they may have made outside of a quizbowl context.

We hope to see you all in Ann Arbor on March 17th!

Following a request from a participating team, we have made the following addition to the eligibility guidelines:

Two announcements:

Reminder: we'll be reserving rooms before this upcoming weekend, so if you'd like to play please register before then. We'll leave a little bit of room in the field cap (i.e. it will exceed twelve) but there's no guarantees.

Also, we will be running my visual geo tournament, Entirely Real Landscapes, after the tournament. Link to more info in the OP.

Congrats to MSU C for clearing the field and winning by three games, and to Jakob Myers for top scoring.

We also ran Entirely Real Landscapes, which was won by Jakob, with Asher Margulies coming in second, I believe.

There are staaaaaaaaaaats.
