This Tournament is a Crime at Harvard (3/4/17)

Post by Cleveland Browns Fan Club »

Harvard will be hosting a mirror of This Tournament is a Crime on Saturday, March 4, 2017. Note, that this will be an open difficulty tournament, so there are no eligibility restrictions. Further details about the set can be found here.

Time, Location, and Transportation

Registration will take place from 8:30 to 9:00 AM, and the tournament will start as soon as everyone is registered. The tournament will take place in the 2nd floor of Sever Hall, in Harvard Yard. There are a variety of parking options around Harvard Square, but I highly recommend taking public transportation instead: the T has a stop conveniently in Harvard Square.

Distribution and Fee Structure
Base Fee: $150
Buzzer System: -$5
Moderator: -$25
Players all from the same school: -$30

The minimum fee is $60.

Registration
To register, email me, Roger Jin at [email protected]. Make sure to CC Raynor Kuang at [email protected].

Have a happy new year, and hope to see all of you soon!

Quick field update one week out:
Current Field (teams/buzzers/staff)
MIT: 2/0/0
Yale: 2/1/0
Tufts: 1/0/0
House: 1/0/0

The cap will tentatively be 12. If more teams are interested, we can have the house team staff. See you in a week!

We're currently at 7, which is an awful number. We could drop the house team, but I think teams would much rather play the house team (for competitiveness's sake--Will HM and Sriram are making a venue return), so we're going to try very hard to get to 8.

If any school could at all bring another team, and promise that that team won't drop, then we'll give that team a discount all the way to the mirror fee ($40, and negotiable if that's what bars you from coming). Alternatively, if any of the teams coming, or a team that hasn't registered yet, we're also willing to form a scab team by piecing together teams and--though we'd like it if we got a 4-person team and everyone just paid 10 bucks--we can probably eat that mirror fee by our club.

Note this is an open tournament, so that's valid for all Boston/Northeast players! Come play quizbowl again! We'd really like you to!

I already volunteered to staff this, but since 7 is a terrible number and there are enough staffers, I'm willing to play. (Just don't expect me to get many questions.)

EDIT: Northeastern won't be sending anyone else, because it's spring break.

I can join an 8th team for this, but I need to leave around 5 pm.

Hopefully we can get a couple more people to fill out the team.

We've filled out the scab team with Ming-Ho, Seth, Lloyd Sy, and Jon S. (a Harvard freshman).

That means we have a locked field at 8 teams, and logistics should be coming soon confirming this.
