UC Irvine Fall Invitational (10/29/16) (Penn Bowl/IS-161AC)

Quiz Bowl at UC Irvine is pleased to announce UC Irvine Fall Invitational, a college level tournament.

DATE/TIME: UC Irvine Fall Invitational will take place on October 29, 2016. Check-in begins at 8:00 A.M., and rounds start at 9:00 A.M. We hope to end the tournament by around 5 - 6 P.M. including finals rounds if necessary.

There will be separate College Novice and College Varsity divisions: the College Novice will be a mirror of NAQT IS-161AC (more details about the set can be seen here: https://www.naqt.com/college/collegiate-novice-series.html), and the College Varsity division will be a mirror of the 2016 Penn Bowl set (more details about the set can be seen here: http://www.hsquizbowl.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=18665).

To be eligible for the College Novice division, all players on the team must have:
-Played no more than one Quizbowl tournament -> NO LONGER TRUE, SEE BELOW
-Enrolled in a post-secondary institution
***EDIT AS OF 23 OCTOBER***
-Scored less than 25 ppg at a regular difficulty high school tournament.

High School students may play or staff in the College Varsity division (Chimera teams are welcomed), but are not allowed to do so in the College Novice division as a very similar set will be used later this year in the High School circuit.

LOCATION: UC Irvine Fall Invitational will take place at the student center of the University of California, Irvine, located at 311 W Peltason Dr, Irvine, CA 92697. Check in for the College Novice division will be at Moss Cove A, and the one for the College Varsity division will be at Moss Cove B. REGISTRATION: Please email us at quizbowl.@uci.edu.
In the email, please provide the following:
1) School name
2) Number of College Novice division teams (with a tentative roster, please email us a final roster the day by October 28, 2016 8 am PDT)
3) Number of College Varsity division teams (with a tentative roster, please email us a final roster the day by October 28, 2016 8 am PDT)
4) Number of buzzers
5) Number of moderators
6) Contact Email
7) Emergency contact phone number

Pricing for the College Novice division and the College Varsity Division are very different, please read the follwoing carefully.

PRICING FOR THE COLLEGE NOVICE DIVISION:
$15 per person
-$5 for each working buzzer system
-$5 for every 50 mi travelled, calculated using Google Maps from your school to UC Irvine
Minimum price per person: $10

PRICING FOR THE COLLEGE VARSITY DIVISION:
$120 per team
-$5 for each working buzzer system
-$5 for every 50 mi travelled, calculated using Google Maps from your school to UC Irvine
-$15 for each competent moderator
-$60 for schools that have competed in 2 or less ACF / NAQT style tournament in the two last years
Minimum price per team: $40

PENALTY: (added from total school cost)
+$20 if you do not send us your rosters by October 28, 2016 8 am PDT.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT: Each round will be untimed rounds of 20 questions (with necessary tiebreakers). Field cap at 16 teams for both divisions (tentatively 8 teams for both divisions, can be changed according to the demand).

PARKING: Parking is available for $10 in the student center parking structure (a map map can be seen here: http://www.studentcenter.uci.edu/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/map-directions-sc.pdf). We are not liable for your car if you decide to park elsewhere.

FOOD: There is a food court at the Terrace level of the Student Center with a Subway and a Wendy's. There's a very close mall across the street with Chipotle, In-N-Out, Starbucks, Chick-Fil-A, Blaze Pizza, etc. 5-10 minutes walk. Light breakfast provided.

Results:
Congrats to Claremont Colleges for winning the Novice Division of UC Irvine Fall Invitational. Kudos to Selena Chen for finishing first individually with 47.78 ppg. Here are the combined scores for the novice division: http://www.hsquizbowl.org/db/tournaments/3899/stats/combined_novice/standings/.

Varsity division is still ongoing with an advantaged final between UCSD A (with the advantage) and Caltech A. Kudos to Hidehero Anto for finishing first individually with 85.00 ppg. More updates to come.
