NAQT Novice at University of South Carolina 9/24/16

Post by Ethnic history of the Vilnius region »

The University of South Carolina will be hosting a mirror of NAQT's Collegiate Novice set #158C on Saturday, September 24, 2016 on our campus in Columbia, SC. Note that this set is different from NAQT's other Collegiate Novice set #161AC, and you are allowed to attend tournaments using each set. The tournament will begin at 9:30 AM in Gambrell Hall, with registration running from 8:30 AM to 9:15 AM. The tournament should be concluded by 5:00 PM if not before. I, Eric Douglass, will be the tournament director.

Entry Fees / Discounts:

Base Fee: $15 per player
-$5 per fully functioning buzzer system
-$10 per 200 miles traveled (one way)
-$10 if your college did not attend any tournaments in the 2015-2016 school year
-$10 for a competent staffer with laptop
Minimum fee: $10 per player

Please bring cash or make a check out to The Academic Team at USC. If your team expects to have financial difficulties, please let us know. We're happy to work something out with you.

Eligibility Rules:

There are no official eligibility rules for this tournament, but keep in mind that this set is oriented towards introducing less experienced players and teams to college quiz bowl. We ask that teams use their best judgment in deciding which players would be considered "novice." If you have any questions about this, feel free to ask us.

Location:

The tournament will take place in Gambrell Hall, which the mascot is pointing to here. We will meet in the lobby.

There are a few meter parking lots in the immediate vicinity and several parallel meters along Barnwell, College, Greene, and Pendleton streets. The regular meters are not checked on Saturdays, though there are a few 15 minute meters that are. Located in the geographic center of South Carolina, Columbia is a fairly short drive from anywhere in South Carolina. It is 1.5 hours from Charlotte and 3.5 hours from Atlanta. South Carolina is not playing a home football game this weekend, so traffic should be light and parking plentiful.

Food:

Breakfast and lunch will not be provided, though there will be a lunch break. There are numerous eateries near the tournament site and we will provide a food guide.

If you have any questions or would like to register, please email us at [email protected]. We hope to see you there!

Congratulations to USC A for winning the USC mirror of the NAQT Novice Tournament. Special thanks to Northeast Alabama Community College for making the trip to Columbia. It was a blast hosting for all of the new players and I hope everyone enjoyed themselves. Here are the stats: http://www.hsquizbowl.org/db/tournament ... all_games/
