2015 ACF Nationals Qualifiers

Post by t-bar »

The teams listed below have qualified for the 2015 ACF Nationals by either (a) winning their ACF Regionals site, (b) winning the Undergraduate title at their Regionals site, (c) applying for and receiving an automatic bid ahead of time, or (d) having a sufficiently high A-value. Further Nationals bids will be issued in descending order of A-value; the full list of A-values will be posted by 8 PM EST on Monday, January 26. (EDIT: see the post below for A-values and information on accepting or declining bids)

All qualified teams should fill out a very brief form at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1jVaHhZ ... 4/viewform to indicate whether they accept their bid. Please do this as soon as possible so that we either know you are coming or can offer your spot to another team. To discourage fraudulent behavior, you will need to log in with a Google account; please use an account that can be easily linked to your real-world identity so we know you are actually representing your team.

If a team that has been offered a bid has not accepted or declined it by midnight EST on February 1, it will be automatically switched to "declined" status. At that time, will also begin taking a waitlist of teams that did not attend ACF Regionals but wish to attend ACF Nationals. If, on February 7, the field is still not full, we will admit as many teams from the waitlist as is necessary to fill the field.

A-values for the 2015 ACF Regionals are now available at http://acf-quizbowl.com/2015-acf-regionals-a-values/. The invitation process for ACF Nationals will work as follows:
  • Every team that is listed as "Invited" should fill out https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1jVaHhZ ... 4/viewform promptly in order to accept or decline its bid. As teams decline their bids, ACF will invite more teams in descending order of A-value.
  • Beginning on February 2, ACF reserves the right to switch non-responsive teams to "declined" and offer their spots to further-down teams in order to keep the process moving. At this point, ACF will ask the remaining teams on the A-value list to pre-emptively indicate whether they intend to accept or decline a bid if it is offered to them.
  • Also on February 2, ACF will begin soliciting teams that did not play ACF Regionals but are interested in attending ACF Nationals. These teams will be added to the waitlist as if they had an A-value of 0 and had pre-accepted their bid.
  • On February 8, all Regionals-playing teams who have not responded will be switched to "declined" status. At this point, ACF will admit as many non-playing teams off the waitlist as are necessary to fill the field.
  • If the field is still not full at this point, then ACF will accept registrations on a first-come, first-served basis until it is necessary to lock the ACF Nationals field for logistical reasons. Teams that initially declined a bid but have since changed their mind may register during this period.
I will maintain a list of teams that have accepted their bids in this thread, in addition to updating the spreadsheet linked to above. If this information is at odds with what you believe you communicated to us, please let me know at [email protected].

Teams that received their bid more than two days ago and have not accepted or declined it should do so by midnight tonight. If we haven't heard from you by midnight tonight we will assume you have declined your bid and offer it to the next team on the list.

Every bid that was issued before yesterday has now been accepted or declined. At this point, the following two processes will occur simultaneously:
  • Every team that played Regionals and has not yet received a bid should go to https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1EZgptZ ... Y/viewform (note that this is a new form; if you already filled out the first form for your A team, the same Google account will work on this form for your B team) and tell us whether they would accept an ACF Nationals bid if it were offered to them. If teams do this promptly, this will allow us to process the waitlist faster.
  • Teams that did not play Regionals but are interested in attending ACF Nationals should email me at [email protected] to be placed at the end of the waitlist. These teams will be allowed in if we process the entire waitlist of teams that did play Regionals and there are spaces left.
If any Regionals-playing team has not provisionally accepted or declined its bid by midnight on February 7, its bid will be automatically switched to "Declined." At that point (if not earlier), we will accept as many teams from the non-playing end of the waitlist as is necessary to fill the field.

If you have any questions about the above process, please post here or email me at [email protected].

This form allows only one response per Google account. Given the presence of A, B, C, etc. teams, this form should allow multiple responses.

If it would be more convenient for schools with multiple teams to email me their responses directly, that's fine.

The 44 teams listed in green have accepted bids to ACF Nationals. The 10 teams listed in blue have provisionally accepted bids, and will be added to the field in the event that spots become available. Any other teams that wish to attend ACF Nationals (including teams that declined their bids the first time around) should email me at [email protected] to be added to the waitlist.
