We hope that this effort will make it easier for tournaments to find moderators and will eventually lead to more former players getting involved in a variety of ways to support quizbowl.
PACE wrote:Hello! As a prior participant in the PACE NSC Quizbowl championship, PACE (the Partnership for Academic Competition Excellence) wanted to reach out to you, let you know about the current status of high school quizbowl, and let you know about ways that you can get involved.
PACE is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which supports quizbowl in a variety of ways in addition to running our national championship. We give grants to organizations and people that are working to expand quizbowl, and we are now starting a college scholarship.

The website that is the main hub of quizbowl information is http://hsquizbowl.org/db/. The front page of that site links to discussion forums that are used widely to discuss quizbowl on the local, state, and national levels. One way to help quizbowl is to just be a part of the conversation.
One of the most common ways for quizbowl alumni to help quizbowl is to moderate at tournaments. The hsquizbowl.org link above has a tournament database so that you can find tournaments. You can also find tournaments on the forums. NAQT is the largest provider of questions in the country, and tournaments using their questions are listed at https://www.naqt.com/schedule.jsp; if you don't see anything in your area, contact NAQT at [email protected] so they know about your interest and can put you in touch with any programs that are thinking of hosting a tournament.
If you want to staff nationals, the PACE NSC is June 10-11 at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare near Chicago. If you are interested in helping us out, send an email to [email protected]. The other large national tournaments are run by NAQT and can be found by contacting them.
Another organization, ACE, organizes several large-scale academic competition events throughout the year and is always looking for experienced moderators. Some of the events even have open/adult divisions if you're looking to compete. For more information about how you can get involved, visit http://www.aceqb.com or email [email protected].
If you want to help PACE financially, we encourage you to look at http://www.hsquizbowl.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=320146. Fred Morlan, who posts national rankings of high school teams, is collecting pledges based on his work. More information, including a way to help us through AmazonSmile, is at http://www.pace-nsc.org/donate-to-pace/.
We hope you have good memories of quizbowl and the PACE NSC. Thank you for reading this message, and thank you for being a part of the activity we love.
