Sorry this announcement is so late. This will be the discussion thread for the tournament, which currently has a 16-team field. We'll see who shows up in the morning.

Update: The teams were divided into one pool of six and two pools of five in the morning, with the two pools of five playing one crossover. The top bracket was determined by taking the three pool winners and one wild card, the 4-1 team with the best PPB.

Auburn A, Loyola A, and Stevenson A all won their pools, and St. Viator B was the wild card winner.

More updates soon.

Auburn A went 3-0 in the afternoon rounds to win the tournament. Stevenson finished 2nd, Loyola 3rd, and St. Viator B 4th, with St. Viator A winning the consolation bracket.

The final match (round 8) was originally at a 350-290 score in favor of Auburn, but a dispute on one of the tossups led to the score being reset to 320-290, and a new tossup/bonus cycle being read. Stevenson got the ensuing tossup but zero'd the bonus, while Auburn rebounded one part, which made the final score 330-300 in favor of Auburn.

Thanks to all who came and helped out.

The tournament ended with the following results:

1. Auburn A
2. Stevenson A
3. Loyola
4. St. Viator B
5. St. Viator A (consolation champion)

All stats were completed in incredible fashion by Jordan Hoffmann, and they will be posted sometime soon. Donald should be worried, I think

I'd like to thank everyone who came out to came out to compete in this tournament, as well as all the staffers without whom this tournament could not have happened. I'd also like to thank all of the members of Auburn's team who worked to write and edit this tournament, particularly Lloyd Sy, Abid Haseeb, and the aforementioned Jordan Hoffmann. Special thanks also go out to Auburn alums Siva Sundaram and John Brown for the editing they did, as well as Loyola's Nolan Winkler for some last minute contributions. And last but certainly not least, I'd like to thank our coach Ms. Linda Greene for her hard work throughout the process and her undying dedication to Auburn quiz bowl. Please forgive me if I forgot anyone.

Discussion on questions is not open at this time, as we plan on mirrors in the future. Please refrain from addressing specific questions, and keep your comments limited to general things about the set as a whole. Comments about distribution, specific categories, and the tournament itself are perfectly fine and definitely encouraged.

You can direct specific questions and comments to the proper people in a private setting. Specific category editors are listed below.
Lit: Lloyd Sy, Ms. Greene, John Brown
SS: Zahed Haseeb (all of history, some social science, lots of RM), Siva Sundaram (social science, some RM), Ms. Greene (geography)
FA: Lloyd Sy (music), Ms. Greene, Abid Haseeb
Science: Siva Sundaram (vast majority), Zahed Haseeb
Math: John Brown
Misc.: various people mentioned above

Things I'm already aware of:

Difficulty--This tournament was definitely hard for a frosh/soph event (probably more of a novice difficulty), but I think it fulfilled my personal philosophy for this level of competition. In frosh/soph play, answering a lot of questions and proving who has the better team should always come secondary to acquiring important knowledge for higher levels of play. I encouraged all the teams in my rooms to take notes and pay attention to everything, because everything that came up today will indubitably come up in the future.

Errors within packets--A few questions had bad leadins, as well as a few typos and clunky sentences here and there. Those issues will obviously be resolved. There were also a couple of errors with missing questions and switched answers; they'll also be taken care of.

Distribution--I devised the distribution that was used today, and I'm interested to know how people liked it.

Tournament format--The champion was determined using best playoff record, a direct result of us writing only 8 packets for a 16-team field. I know it wasn't ideal, but it worked alright. Next year we'll definitely write 9 or 10 packets to allow for a better playoff format.

I might make a private Facebook group for specific discussion, but I don't think anyone but us is in possession of the questions.

The distro in this tournament was as follows:

1/1 US lit
1/1 Brit lit
1/1 World lit
1/1 Other lit (generally another US lit, sometimes a lit term)

1/1 Paintings and painters and terms
1/1 Music
1/1 Other fine arts (either more music, more paintings/painters, or architecture and sculpture)

1/1 US history
1/1 World history
1/1 European history
1/1 Social sciences (gov, econ, phychology, philosophy, anthropology)
1/1 RM
1/0 or 0/1 Geography (corresponding to current events)

1/1 Bio
1/1 Chem
1/1 Earth science and astronomy
1/1 Noncomputational math
1/1 Other science (bio or mix in the morning, physics in the afternoon)

1/1 Interdisciplinary
0/1 or 1/0 Current events (generally not trashy)
1/0 or 0/1 Pop culture (corresponding to sports)
0/1 or 1/0 Sports

A couple of rounds broke the distribution in the miscellaneous categories, and they should be fixed when we send the set to mirrors.

Another thing: We didn't let any regular varsity starter from any team play in this tournament. We might explore making this novice tournament next year, per my personal vision and not necessarily anyone else's.

Is the set going to be mirrored anywhere else? If not, you should send it to George Berry (georgeberry292 @ hotmail . com) so he can post it for everyone.

I thing Springfield is running one, and (ironically), JR Barry might also be mirroring in a southeast tournament. I think this was a pretty good set (how did other people feel?), and I think we'd be willing to sample it to anyone legitimately considering a mirror.

Edit: Wrong berry. Or barry, apparently.

This is the first I have heard of such a thing, and I am notably not in the southeast. Perhaps you mean someone in Georgia.

I think you're looking at the wrong column.

P/BB is points per bounceback, and P/B is points per bonus controlled (I think).

Stevenson led with 20.54 P/B. Auburn and Loyola were at 20.12 and 17.33, respectively. From there, there's a bit of a dropoff.
