Is a CT state championship viable?

Post by rpirrie »

Is a CT state championship a viable thing? Enquiring minds want to know. Looks like MA may be doing its own thing this year, so its up to us in the Constitution State to start looking at whether we can pull off a championship. Let's start by doing a survey of active CT quizbowl programs. Who's out there? Please tell quiz bowl coaches and buddies at other CT schools to check in as well. Concerned parties should also respond. Thanks.

It's certainly viable. 10 teams seems like a reasonable field for this if you try hard. We're out there, Newtown's out there, Woodland Regional seems to be somewhat active, Greens Farms Academy is going to Fact, Suffield Academy went to CT Inv. last year, as did Suffield High School. However, I think being able to get those teams that only occasionally go to tournaments will be key if this is to actually happen.

Edit: And I don't think many of these teams really use the forums, so a survey won't be too helpful.

Woodland Regional would be interested in a state tournament. One of my students has been interested in running an event and this may be a possibility.

Is anyone planning on making a bid to host a state tournament?

The answer is Yes! Please have a look at the following link, and if you are from Connecticut, please try to attend.

Besides making a post on the forums, has Woodland Regional also advertised the tournament through snail mail and e-mail? As of now, the only three schools in attendance are the ones who have a presence on the forums.

I did provide them with an email list, and so they sent out an all-call a few days ago. I do not know about snail mail, but I will bring it up with them. In the meantime, anyone with a platform from which to promote, please promote this tourney.
