UCI Spring Invitational II (NAQT MS-21 on 03/04/2017)

Quiz Bowl at UC Irvine is proud to announce the second edition of the UCI Spring Tournament on Saturday March 4, 2017. We plan to start checking in teams at 8:30AM and start at 9:00AM. We plan to end around 5:00PM with a lunch break around 1:00 PM. Please bring your own lunch or dine in one of several restaurants around campus.

Location: The tournament will take place at the University of California, Irvine Student Center in Emerald Bay A.
The address is located at 311 West Peltason Drive, Irvine, CA 92697.

Questions: We will be using NAQT Middle School Series #21. (For practice material similar to the questions we will use at the tournament, please consider the NAQT New Middle School Package)

The top 15% of teams will qualify for the 2017 NAQT Middle School National Championship Tournament, to be held in Dallas, Texas on May 12-14, 2016.

Eligibility: All middle schools (public, private, charter, religious, homeschool, etc.) are eligible to play in this event. This tournament is open to any players who have not yet completed 8th grade, though the questions are targeted at 7th and 8th graders.

Schools are encouraged to enter multiple teams, but please note that players must play for the same team throughout the tournament.

Note to schools participating the San Diego City Academic League: Since this set is used in the San Diego City Academic League, schools participating in that event are prohibited to come to this tournament unless they forfeit their right to participate in the San Diego City Academic League.

Pricing:
Any new schools (a school that did not play a tournament in the 2015-2016 season) will pay a flat $20 per team.

For returning schools:
$55 per team of 4 or less
$70 per team of 5 or 6.
Teams of more than 6 are no longer accepted

Discounts:
- $20 per school that successfully introduces Quiz Bowl to another school
- $10 per working buzzer system (must accommodate at least eight players)
- $10 per experienced moderator
- $5 per 50 miles traveled one-way per school

Minimum Fees:
$40 for each regular team
$20 for each new school team

Please note that parking is available at an additional cost of $10 per car payable in cash the day of the tournament.

Payment will be taken at check-in on March 4th, 2017. Please prepare cash or make checks to Quiz Bowl at UC Irvine.

How to register: please email Quiz Bowl at UC Irvine: quizbowl AT uci DOT edu on or before Wednesday, March 1st, 2017 indicating how many teams, buzzers, and staffers(moderators) your school plans to bring. Please also send an official team roster by Friday, March 3rd, 2017.

Field: There is a field cap of 14 teams on a first-come, first-served basis. In our first tournament, we attracted a team from Nevada, so we expect the field to be strong and to fill fast.
