"How To Get Good At This Game"

Hey.
There used to be a guide at Wash U's team site by Roger Bhan called "How To Get Good At This Game" or something along those lines. Does that still exist somewhere or does someone still have a copy of it squirreled away, perhaps?

Thanks,
MaS

Edit: Fixed missing letter.

You might want to try e-mailing them (washuqb -at- gmail -dot- com) to see if they still have it.

What's e-mail?

Seriously, though, that would be an interesting guide to see, indeed. Anyone from Wash U care to comment?

You have to select all text to get it to show up, as it appears to be black text on black background at present.

In the war of ideas between Raj Bhan and Charlie Steinhice, I know whose side I am on.

I observed Raj's attendance at more than one UTC tournament when he played for the turn-of-the-millenium powerhouse Broward CC teams coached by Raj Dhuwalia, and I recall him enjoying himself and the competition. Any war of ideas between him and Charlie is inference, not authorial intention, presumably.

Even if one disagrees with the "performance" of Charlie's tournament mantra, it does not state that losing is fun, only that it is better than losing very badly and certainly better than not playing at all. The latter is self-evident; every hard-core player has his tale of being beaten badly by great players early in his career, and none of them suggest that quitting the game is better than taking one's lumps and improving.

PS (in a feeble attempt to get this back on thread): we gratefully hand out Raj's "rules" at the beginning of every season to new players. It's good to let them know how much commitment is needed to improve.

Just wanted to say thanks for sharing this little bit of wisdom.

Also particularly good words of wisdom is Roger's question writer's manifesto. If anyone wants I have a copy of that somewhere.

That would be keen. You should see if Wash. U. is willing to re-host those things.

I hear the ACF website will shortly be under new management. Certainly they could and should be posted there.

I'll be updating the website soon and will incorporate all these things into it.

Yes. Yuri has now taken over, as I have been raped over and over by thesis research.

We only did them the first go-around because Roger wrote them and edited them. Every other time I've ever tried mentioning writing a tournament other than WUHSAC I've gotten a blank stare and a quick dismissal. Not my concern anymore anyway.
