Movies "for Quizbowl"

Post by NikhilSethi »

Hey guys. I have seen the thread about books "for quizbowl" and how they can help to improve knowledge of the canon. Are there any movies that can do the same?

kthx.

When I was in college, my friends and I watched the full length director's cut of Knight's Tale (with Heath Ledger, before it was cool to watch Heath Ledger movies) multiple times. Chaucer is a major character in this movie. I don't know if it's in the regular version of the film, but in the director's cut, when Chaucer introduces himself to the other characters, he says "you may have read my book: the Book of the Duchess".

It's a line seemingly designed to make quizbowl players, and few others, laugh.

Do you want to watch films that will teach you about quizbowl topics or watch films that come up a lot in quizbowl?

Midnight in Paris is great for art history and lit, and Amadeus has some good music references (though the whole Salieri thing is generally accepted as not true).

Biopics help with history a bit, but sometimes you have to take the with a grain of salt.
