Walden III at Illinois Open
Hey, everyone:
It's going to happen at last if it kills me. Walden III will be played at Illinois Open, TIT, and their assorted mirrors this year. Walden III is a tossup only subject-specific tournament comprised of questions on social science, philosophy, and a smattering of what I'm going to term "other academic thought," which may include criticism of all kinds and who knows what else? It's our intent to offer this event in doubles format; however, the constraints of field size may necessitate this being played as a singles.
I'm really very excited for this thing to actually get played. I hope to see you all there!

Is this meant to be in the announcements forum?

Re: Walden III at Illinois Open
I have written some philosophy trash for this event. Prepare to be amazed.
EDIT: PS this is running at Maryland's site, as well.

If I am at IO (and it appears like I will be, grading be DAMNED), I'll give this tournament a whirl.

I'd also like to play this, if I am not needed to moderate or whatnot.

Re: Walden III at Illinois Open
I would not be surprised if demand confirms Walden 3 as doubles or even triples. Since I have my usual free lodging in Champaign-Urbana for two nights, I am looking for a teammate for Saturday night (or Sunday morning?).

Provided I don't need to read for this and the general term "social science" stays consistent with both MO and THUNDER, I would like to play this.

Re: Walden III at Illinois Open
Hey all,
Unfortunately, I'm playing the part of backpack thief today to tell you that we're going to be postponing this tournament. Rest assured that the tournament's existence or completeness is no longer an issue - we're good to go, and eager to run the event as soon as the opportunity presents itself. But given that the interest in a Sunday evening (and that's when it would be run, if we paired it with various TIT/IO weekends) has been minimal, that running this event as schedule would make it the fourth tournament in a busy weekend, and that lots of other weekends have just one event all by itself and probably feeling kind of misanthropic, we're going to be attaching Walden to another upcoming event. The exact determination of which event that will be hasn't been made, but since time to complete the set is no longer a factor, we're entirely flexible. I guess we'll be entertaining suggestions on this point, and will be making an announcement about it in the relatively near future. We hope that this doesn't mess with anyone's plans (though based on talking to people, it seems like it actually is beneficial for most people), and that you'll ultimately be able to experience the joys of Trygvebowl after one final brief waiting period.

Re: Walden III at Illinois Open
Aaaagh, my primary reason for going to IO foiled.
I really am looking forward to this though, and I agree that attempting to put some restraints on the "CRAZY ALL QUIZBOWL WEEKENDS" (during school) is a good idea.

Does the combination of Chris making this post and the beginning of Trygve's thread-beginning post indicate that Trygve is no longer with us?
