ANNOUNCEMENT: Toronto Hybrid Competition (March 12th, 2016)
ANNOUNCEMENT: Toronto Hybrid Competition (March 12th, 2016)
Hello Canada!
The University of Toronto is very excited to announce the Toronto Hybrid Competition, which will be occurring on March 12th, 2016 at the University of Toronto. The tournament will be starting at 9:00 AM. Please meet in Wilson Hall room 2002 (40 Willcocks St.) at approximately 8:30. The games will be taking place in the adjacent Wetmore Hall. We have 6 game rooms booked, so the field is capped at 13 teams.
WHAT IS THIS SET?
Due to the non-occurrence of Ottawa Hybrid this year, Toronto Hybrid is being created to satisfy fans of hybrid tournaments everywhere. Like OH, it will be a packet-submission, regular-minus difficulty set. It will be an open tournament. The distribution is similar to the OH distribution, with a few minor changes:
Academic (11/11)
2/3 or 3/2 Science (1 bio, 1 chem, 1 physics, 1 minor science, 1 your choice)
2/3 or 3/2 History (1 Anglosphere, 1 Continental Europe, 2 Rest of World, 1 your choice. That set of questions should adhere to the following chronological distribution: 1 before 500, 1 from 500 - 1500, 1 1500 - 1900, 1 1900 - present, 1 your choice)
2/3 or 3/2 Lit (1 Continental Europe, 1 world or ancient, 1 British, 1 Canadian/American, 1 your choice, try to vary time periods)
1/1 RMP (1 philosophy, 1 religion or myth)
1/1 Fine Art (1 visual, 1 aural)
0/1 or 1/0 Social Sciences
0/1 or 1/0 Geography
0/1 or 1/0 Other academic
Trash (11/11)
2/2 Music (minimum of 0/1 or 1/0, maximum of 1/1 pre-1980)
2/2 TV
2/2 Movies
2/2 Sports (1/1 from {football, hockey, baseball, basketball}, 1 other, 1 your choice)
1/1 Trash lit (not necessarily books - could also be comics, magazines or literally anything)
1/1 Video games
1/1 Other
Most notably, the history distribution now has both chronological and geographic requirements, to avoid an onslaught of modern history questions.

Penn would tentatively like to register a team. This might become a Penn + Patrick Liao team but the details are still being worked out.

Re: ANNOUNCEMENT: Toronto Hybrid Competition (March 12th, 20
Logistics info for tomorrow:
As stated above, this tournament will be taking place in Wilson Hall and Wetmore Hall, which are next to each other. Meet in Wilson Hall (40 Willcocks St.) 2002 at 8:30, and the tournament will start at 9:00 AM. This street is the same one that borders the south side of Sidney Smith, where we usually have our tournaments. Please note that Willcocks Street is pedestrian only so please do not try to drive your car through it. The closest parking is at 107 St. George Street a couple blocks north of there.
There are a bunch of lunch options near campus, and I believe the buffet in Wilson Hall will be open, which costs about $11 (?) for all you can eat.
I can't think of anything else right now, but if I missed anything please let me know.
See you all tomorrow!

Hi everyone,
Thanks so much to all of you who attended the tournament this weekend. I know there were definitely some things that needed to be smoothed out, and I apologize for my absence for most of the day, but the staffers who were there powered through it and did a great job with what was available to them. We hope to have most of the problems ironed out shortly so that the set can be sent out for mirrors. If you have any questions/comments/suggestions about how the tournament went please feel free to post here or contact us.
