SUBMIT at Carleton University (March 9, 2014)
This is the announcement post for Carleton University, in Ottawa Ontario, hosting a SUBMIT mirror.

Where : Southam Hall Room 416 at Carleton.
Packet Submission : There is NO submission requirement for this mirror.
Field Cap: 12 Teams.
The global tournament announcement for SUBMIT can be found here.

Base Fee : $130
Buzzers: -$10 each, no limit (We will only accept buzzbox if we don’t have enough real buzzers)
Distance (over 400 kilometres for the round trip) : $-10
Multi-team discount: $-20 for each subsequent team
Staffers: -$20 each, no limit
All-High School Team: $-20
International (comprised entirely of people coming from outside of Canada, regardless of nationalities) : $-20
Minimum fee: $60
Registration: Posting in this thread is helpful, but to officially register you MUST email our tournament director, me, at: [email protected]
If you couldn't tell already, this tournament is being hosted the day after Ottawa Hybrid. We'd like to highly encourage all the teams coming to Hybrid to also come to our tournament. If you're coming to Ottawa, why not stay for the weekend!?
For teams looking for places to stay and things to do, The Jordan Palmer Experience has kindly bestowed such knowledge here and here.
For teams who need parking, the tournament will be in Southam Hall. The best place to park is parking lot 1 (P1, Lot 1) in the southwest corner of campus. It's a $3 daily flat rate, and the closest lot. Feel free to consult the parking map here.
Unlike the great Pizza Hut Debacle of '13 at MFT this time it won't be reading week so the on-campus food will be open. That said, we will also organize a group lunch, so that's another thing to get excited about!
If you have any question, quibbles, queries, or quandaries concerning this triumphant trivial tournament, mail or message your missive to myself, either in this funky futuristic forum or any other way you have to contact me.
A Facebook event has been created for this tournament and can be found here : Facebook event
Running Field List:
Waterloo A
Aayush/ADR/Shelbeeby
Colonel By + Joe
McMaster A
Jordan Palmer Superteam
Waterloo-Carleton Friendship Team
Carleton House Team A
McGill A

Someone from Carleton called UO by its actual name? And in French too, comme nous le faisons tous les jours à l'Université d'Ottawa? Whatever happened to that song they teach you?TheRhymeMinister wrote: (not Université d'Ottawa soft 9. it's "Isuri Herath will obliterate you" hard 9.)
More seriously, there will be some collection of uOttawa people here following OHT, exact number coming later. One buzzer set for sure, per our usual.

Yes, Waterloo will be there with 2-3 teams. I'll personally be playing this with Aaron Dos Remedios, Shelby Robert and Dennis Beeby.
One set of buzzers from 'Loo, and maybe some staffers based on what people want to do.

We've figured out the fees for the tournament, which can now be seen in the initial post. Also, just a friendly reminder that it is optimal for you to email and confirm your registration sooner than later. It helps our planning and prevents Isuri from ripping out her hair.

There will be a McMaster presence at this event. How many people it entails cannot yet be determined, but we'll say one team for now.

Because of limited room bookings, we've had to put a cap on the field of 12 teams. Also, considering that we're 1 week away from the tournament, any teams who are interested in playing but haven't contacted me yet should do so immediately.

A friendly reminder to teams that clocks go ahead one hour during the night before this tournament. It would be a shame to have teams showing up at 10 AM SHARP.

Hey Everyone!
We're meeting in Southam Hall Room 416 this Sunday. The tournament starts at 9 am SHARP on Sunday, so be sure to arrive well in advance. Also, if you need to be reminded, Sunday is when the clocks spring forward, so don't forget about that. Finally, while there will be on-campus food available, we'll also be arranging a pizza lunch that day for interested teams.
Looking forward to seeing all of you Sunday!

Today we learned the 1999 Lakers were not very good at Quizbowl, the Sassanid Empire was truly sassy, and in the end the Jordan Palmer Superteam defeated all challengers!
In all seriousness, thanks to all the teams who came out today. I got to say it was a good day! Stats can be found here.

Re: SUBMIT at Carleton University (March 9, 2014)
Just want to say a huge thank you to the organizers, readers and scorekeepers for a very well-run and professional tournament. You guys rock (special thanks to Alasdair for leading us to a very yummy on-campus buffet)! On a separate note, Carleton U has whole vending machines full of flavoured (US: flavored) milk, which also rocks.
A big props and thanks to our opponents who made this tournament competitive, and of course to my own teammates Huma Zafar, Eric Monkman, and Matt Trudgen. It was a fun day.

Echoing the appreciation expressed by others in this thread. I thought it was a really fun tournament and had a great time.
Thanks to everyone at Carleton who made this happen. We love all of you except Nick Penner.
And Dante, you should know that puppies grow up. To become big dogs. With a vengeance.
