2012 NAQT Sectionals at UF (2/4/12)

Post by Jesus vs. Dragons »

Announcement
The University of Florida Quiz Bowl program would like to announce the Section 6 NAQT Sectionals to be held at the University of Florida's campus on February 4, 2012. This tournament will take place in Matherly Hall (here is a map). Registration will begin at 8:30 A.M., with a coaches/captains meeting at 9 A.M. and rounds beginning at 9:30 A.M.

Fees
• $120 for the first team
• $100 for subsequent teams
• -$10 for working buzzer set
• -$10 for every 200 miles traveled, according to Google Maps
• -$5 for working timer
• -$5 for competent staffer

If any teams would like to fly here, the Gainesville Regional Airport (GNV) operates through Delta, so it may be worthwhile to investigate whether or not your airport offers flights down here. We will arrange for any airline passengers to be picked up, if there is a need. Please contact me at ethanh09[at]ufl.edu if you have any questions, and I will update the tournament field as teams register.

Consider at least one team from Auburn highly interested in attending this.

Ethan, I am going to go ahead and register 1 Di and DII teams, but the number may change after registration. I will be sure to let you know as soon as possible, before you make your schedule.

Stupid question, I'm sure, Ethan, but are you and Dallin playing d1 or d2?

It won't affect how UCF registers, but I want to know if I should bring my holy water or not.

Since the field is probably going to be merged, how is qualification for each division going to be distributed?

Where would you say would be the best place to park, Ethan? I've noticed there is a "Buckman Lot" and "Criser Hall Parking" on the map provided. I also noticed a few meters within distance. Would either of those be our best bet or are there closer parking spots of which the police wouldn't ticket us?

There are two lots off of Union Road by Criser Hall that are close to the building. Those are your best bets. Apparently there's a debate tournament on the floor above us, so if you see anyone dressed particularly well who looks excited to be here, you're on the wrong floor.

After the late start, I thought this was a very well-run and -managed tournament. Thanks to UF for hosting! (Even if I didn't get the chance to Tebow at Ben Hill Griffin...)

To echo Harrison's comments, I thoroughly enjoyed the tournament. The only bad spot aside from the late start was the reader in room 5 I believe. (He had on a tie and stuff) We would consistently get through 22-24 toss-ups on average but in his room the best we had was 18. He also insisted at times to finish the bonus before accepting our answer even when we were telling him.

Thanks to UF for hosting!

Thanks once again to UF for hosting SCT this year, it was a very enjoyable tournament all-around. Thanks to all the competitors, especially UCF for playing so well in what was one of the most exciting matches in my entire career, and to Harrison, Mark, and Kaleb for a final that was a close contest for most of the match. Best of luck to everyone going forward.

His name is Benjamin and he is a freshman who insists on reading at our tournaments. Unfortunately we were a bit pressed for readers and he was forced into duty, but maybe next time we will have more people around to help out. I'm glad everyone enjoyed it and thanks to everyone who came down.
