National Ocean Science Bowl --call for writers

Post by bdavery »

The Consortium for Ocean Leadership and National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB®) are seeking question writers for the 2008-09 competition.

The National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB), managed by the Consortium for Ocean Leadership, is a national competition for high schools on ocean-related topics. Categories include: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geology, Geography, Marine Policy, Recent Events and Technology. A competition includes 2 rapid-fire rounds of multiple choice or short answer questions and 2 critical thinking Team Challenge Questions. Note: all tossups are multiple-choice (WXYZ, like Science Bowl); the bonuses can be multiple-choice or short answer. The Team Challenge Questions are comprehensive thought questions that range from 2 minutes to 5 minutes for a team of 4 students to answer. Please visit http://www.nosb.org for more information.

To be a question writer, send 3 sample buzzer questions or 1 sample team challenge question to Allison Byrd at [email protected] by Friday, May 30. We will select writers after receiving all responses and will notify applicants of our decision during the week of June 2.

NOSB is seeking scientists and graduate students to each write 100 multiple choice and short answer questions for the 2009 NOSB competition. If you are accepted as a writer, NOSB will pay writers $4 for each well-written and usable question accepted by the advisory panel. NOSB will pay $10 for each accepted TCQ. A $200 good faith payment will be sent in September 2008, provided the writers have met their deadline. The final payment for the remaining balance based on accepted questions will be sent by December 2008.
