Chiles High School Tournament

Post by wd4gdz »

On January 28, 2006, Chiles HS in Tallahassee, Florida held its first ever high school tournament. Fifteen teams competed, with the top eight making it to the playoffs. In the finals, Leon defeated Eastide B. Other teams that deserve recognition for making the playoffs include Lincoln, Rickards, Eastide A, Choctawhatchee, Niceville, and OWC A. The top scorer award went to David Flowers of Lincoln.

Highlights for myself, a volunteer reader, included really nice teams, tasty BBQ for lunch, and having the tournament over by 4PM.

it was an okay tournament. a lot of the questions weren't that great. one-liner tossups, tossup related PLEASE MAKE FUN OF ME BECAUSE I SPEAK NEITHER LATIN NOR ENGLISH, etc. The 'lightning round' was an interesting take. I personally think Montverde holds a better tournament in this format.
