The Allderdice Academic Team is pleased to announce that we will be hosting our 4th annual Invitational Quiz Bowl Tournament on January 27th, 2018 at Taylor Allderdice High School, 2409 Shady Ave 15217, Pittsburgh PA.

Set: The tournament will be run on NAQT's IS-168 Invitational set. Any teams that have already played on this set are ineligible to play in this tournament.

Format: The initial field cap will be 24 teams. Teams will play with two nine minute halves or 20 tossups with bonuses; whichever comes first.

How to register: Email the tournament director Leo Sweeney at [email protected] specifying the number of teams and buzzers you are planning on bringing. To ensure accurate bracketing, we mandate that a roster of each team is provided upon registration.

Cost: The first team from each school will cost $70, with each additional team costing $60.

Discounts: -$5 for each buzzer system (must include at least 8 fully functioning buzzers)
-$10 for distances traveled over 150 miles (will be checked using google maps relative to our school) as well as interstate travel.

Qualification: Our tournament will serve as a qualifier for both the 2018 HSNCT and the 2018 SSNCT. We will also likely obtain platinum certification from PACE, meaning that the top 20% of the field will qualify for the 2018 PACE NSC in Reston, VA.

Lunch: Closer to the tournament we may decide to sell lunch after the morning rounds. An email will be sent out by the tournament director letting coaches know the lunch situation. If teams do not eat lunch at Allderdice, there are several eating options within walking distance of Allderdice.

Hello, I have two questions.

First, what do the numbers in your previous post indicate? I would assume that the first number is the number of teams and the second the number of buzzers, but I am confused because we are bringing a buzzer and no number is listed in the second column for us.

Second, since you are not offering a moderator discount and your players are participating in the tournament, who are the moderators who are reading and scoring the rounds?

I do have you down as bringing one buzzer set to our tournament. The above post contains a typo, and will be corrected in the next field update.

To answer your second question, we have a collection of volunteers coming from GPQB, as well as several Allderdice faculty members who are volunteering to moderate.
