You are invited to the second annual Acton-Boxborough Invitational Tournament on April 29, 2017 for a full day of quizbowl. The tournament will take place in Acton-Boxborough Regional High School, located at 36 Charter Road, Acton, MA.

Teams will be registered on a first come first serve basis, with a cap of 24 teams. Additional teams will be placed on a waitlist.

$70 for the first team from a school
$65 for additional teams

Payment through a single check is preferred (make out to ABRHS with memo AB Quiz Bowl), cash will also be accepted. Please don’t bring 225 dollar coins or whatever.

The deadline to drop from the tournament without penalty is April 22nd at 6:00pm. After that time, dropping from the field will incur the full registration fee along with a $15 nuisance fee.

ABIT will be running a mirror of Hunter College High School’s Prison Bowl X set. Games will consist of 20 toss-up questions and 20 30-point bonuses, with 5 point negs and 15 point powers, for a maximum of 900 points per game and 45 points per full question. No computational math questions will be read. The rounds will be untimed. There is a max of 6 players per team, with a max of 4 players playing at the same time. Subs will be allowed after 10 tossups, and teams also get one timeout per round to sub players to be used at their discretion.

There will be 5 preliminary rounds, after which the teams from each bracket will be sorted into playoff brackets based on prelim record and 5 more rounds will be conducted. The top two teams from the highest bracket will then play a finals round. Ties in the standings will be resolved by average team points per game.Check in will be from 8:15 to 8:45 AM, with games beginning ideally at 9 AM. The tournament is expected to end around 6 PM. The top teams will receive trophies, and the top 8 prelim scorers will receive book awards.

Lunch will be around 12:00 PM, for one hour. There are multiple places to eat near the school, but the walk is around 20 minutes one way. Pizza, water, and snacks will be sold at the school, with a price of $5 for two slices, a water, and a bag of chips. After lunch, around 1:00 PM, book awards will be presented and teams will be re-bracketed.
