Academic Team/ Quiz Bowl Team Coach
THE SOUTHERN CRESCENT INVITATIONAL ACADEMIC CHALLENGE 2005

Dear Coach,

We invite your VARSITY quiz bowl team to participate in the sixth annual Southern Crescent Invitational Academic Challenge to be held December 10 at Henry County High School in McDonough GA.

Participation will be limited to no more than 60 teams of up to 4 players each in grades 9-12 , dependent on securing the required number of readers.

Matches will consist of 3 parts: 8 tossups with two-part bonuses, a 20 question worksheet, and 8 more tossups with two-part bonuses. This year’s questions are slightly different from the normal GATA format. The tossups are short, usually one to two sentences in length and not necessarily pyramidal in structure. We’re doing this because the questions are coming from a variety of sources including ourselves and professional companies and because we wanted to mix it up and possibly speed things as well. Each team will play at least five preliminary rounds, with the top 32 advancing to single elimination playoffs. There will be at least 3 trophies and a sportsmanship award.

Lunch will be sold at the school by the band boosters. Maps and lodging information (on request) will be mailed or faxed on receipt of registration. You are asked to bring a working buzzer system. The nonrefundable registration fee for each team is $60 . Please make checks out to “HCHS Academic Team Booster Club.â€

BIG congrats to Dorman C! And all the top 4, but it must've felt great outplaying the B team...

Who did Dorman A play in the quarters and semis, just curious (our coach encouraged us after the round of 16... man that Coach Hauck can positively reinforce a disappointing loss!)

Dorman beat Central Gwinnett in the quarters, 330-300. They beat Dorman C in the semis, but I don't know the score.
