Quizbowl friends,

At long last, the launch of this year's Team Illinois tryout tour is finally here. Tryouts for our two teams will be:
  • Sunday, March 26th, 1:00 P.M. at Fenton High School in Bensenville.
  • Sunday, April 2nd, 1:00 P.M. at the University of Illinois in Urbana.
  • Saturday, April 15th, ~5:00 P.M. (after ATROPHY) at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.
I also have tentative plans for second round of tryouts cum team-building event, which I'm calling a candidates tournament, later in April or May.

Anyone attending high school in Illinois is eligible to try out. Please fill out this Google form to sign up. Good luck to you all!

I'll update this thread as events warrant. Please post questions of general interest here. You can also e-mail me.

To be clear, it's fine if we can only attend one of the tryouts, right? Is it expected that we try to make it to all three?

Thank you for hosting these!

EDIT: I just realized I will not try out. During NASAT, I will be in Budapest. Hope my question still helps other people, though.

Can I ask what question set will be used for this so we know what sets to avoid if we go to play tournaments open to high schoolers?
Thank You

I only expect players to attend one tryout.

We'll use a not-publically-available set set that nobody should have seen; I'll announce what that is once I finalize it.

How many people are expected to make Team Illinois? Will there be a B team this year?

From the google form:
I plan to select 8 players - 4 for each of Illinois A & B - based mostly on the results of these tryouts and of a candidates tournament to be arranged.

One more question I just thought of, How long do you expect these tryouts to run?

Anticipate 2-3 hours.

Will the tryout after ATROPHY conflict with ACRONYM for those who want to play both?

I'm waiting to hear some details from NIU, but I hope not.

Yes

Yeah, given that the tryouts take 2-3 hours, we've got the ACRONYM mirror as an option for those who aren't trying out but are going to be at NIU (say, with their trying-out teammate(s)).

ACRONYM is being mirrored at HSNCT at the very least, so this won't be your only chance to play it; my advice is definitely "tryouts take priority over trash."

I originally signed up for the April 2nd Team Illinois tryout on the Google forum, but I would now like to attend the ATROPHY tryout instead. Would it be possible to change this?

Our second of 2 phase-two tryouts will conclude this evening, so please look back here for team announcements later this week!
