Hello everyone, and thank you to those who participated in East Brunswick High School’s second annual Funfest yesterday! Although it’s been less than 24 hours since the tournament ended, I am excited to announce the East Brunswick Bears Tournament!

Date: April 29, 2017

Time: Registration will open at 7:45, and the moderator meeting will be at 8:45. You must arrive by 8:30.

Packet: NAQT DII ICT - Please note that this packet is more difficult than IS sets, and that this tournament is largely intended to be in preparation for nationals (HSNCT or PACE NSC).
A sample can be found at http://tinyurl.com/ictd2sample

Location: East Brunswick High School (380 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick, NJ)

Format: Currently the field cap is set at 24 teams, which will be expanded if necessary.
Teams will be divided into 4 brackets of 6 teams each who will play 5 rounds of prelims in the morning. In the afternoon, playoffs will be 6 ranked brackets of 4 teams each. These 6 brackets will consist of 3 pairs of 2 equally ranked brackets. After the 3 playoff rounds, teams will play one more round against the equally ranked team in the opposite bracket. The top two teams in each of the top two brackets will play a semifinals and a finals.
For now, there is a max 3 teams per school limit, but it is possible that we might increase this if the field is expanded. Additional teams will be put on a waitlist.

Rules: As this tournament is only a few weeks before HSNCT, we will follow all standard NAQT Rules. For timing, however, we will use 12 minute halves, as opposed to the 9 minute halves at HSNCT, to account for the difficulty of this set. There are no computational math tossups or bonuses in this set.

Lunch: If you wish to order pizza, there is a field in the registration form to order. There is also a Chipotle, Halal Guys, Sarku Japan, Smashburger, and Musclemaker Grill for all you buff players all within a walking distance from the school, as well as many nearby fast food options on Route 18.

Payment:
  • First team: $80
    Subsequent teams: $70
    Minimum fee per team: $50
    Experienced moderator + laptop: -$15
    Buzzer set: -$5
Please bring either cash or a check written out to East Brunswick High School to check-in.

The registration form can be found at http://tinyurl.com/ebbregistration

Please email us at [email protected] or message me (Joe Ham) on Facebook for any questions!

The Division II ICT set does not contain computational questions, at least not in the sense that IS sets do; their might be occasional questions that require simple figuring and/or note-taking.

Thank you for the clarification - I edited to reflect that change.

Just to clarify, that linked packet is a Sectionals D-II round, not ICT D-II.

Also, given that this is explicitly a nationals warm-up, is there any chance it might be played on the clock so teams can get used to that style in competition?

If you do it on the clock, please please use more than 9 minutes.

Just to clarify, High Tech is bringing 3 buzzers and 0 moderators, not vice versa.

Is it likely that wait list will expand?

Thank you all for coming to the 1st annual East Brunswick Bears Tournament!
Despite a staggering 11 drops in registrations, the tournament was a success with only a few minor hiccups.

I'd like to congratulate Lehigh Valley Academy for defeating High Technology High School followed by Ithaca High School in the superplayoffs to take the first place trophy home. Alex Schmidt of LVA was also the leading individual scorer in the preliminary rounds.

Ithaca and High Tech followed closely as second and third place, respectively.

The final stats are available at tinyurl.com/ebbstats

We hope that everyone had a great experience with these exceptionally difficult packets under a timed setting.

Hope to see you all next year!
