VTACO at Virginia Tech (10/1/2016)

Hello all!

Virginia Tech will be hosting its VTACO set on October 1, 2016 on our campus in Blacksburg, VA.

PACE Qualification
This tournament has been award the Gold certification from the Partnership for Academic Competition Excellence! This means that the top 20% of teams from this tournament will earn a bid to PACE's National Scholastic Championship on the weekend of June 10th-11th at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare outside of Chicago.

Location
The tournament will take place in the New Classroom Building located on 1455 Perry Street. A map of campus can be accessed here. There will be free parking directly next to the New Classroom Building.

Question Set
The tournament will run Virginia Tech's housewrite (VTACO), which we've tried to make regular high school level difficulty. The distribution is as follows:

4/4 Science
4/4 History
3/3 Fine Arts
2/2 RMP
1/1 Geography
0.5/0.5 Social Science
1.5/1.5 Trash/Other

Registration
In order to register for this tournament, please contact Eric Chang via email at ([email protected]) with coach's contact information, including a phone number where the coach can be reached on the day of the tournament, the number of teams, and any expected discounts. On the day of the tournament, registration will begin at 8:30, and matches will be starting at 9:00.

Fees
Base fee: $60
Working buzzer set: -$5
Competent Moderator with laptop: -$10
Traveling over 150 miles one-way: -$10
The minimum fee per team: $30

Team Size and Eligibility
Teams are limited to six players, and only four can play at any one time. If a school wishes to field more than six players, they must register an additional team.

Format
The field will be initially capped at 16 teams, but we may expand this if resources allow. Teams registering after the field as been set will be placed on a waiting list. We will guarantee at least 10 rounds of competition for every team.

Thank you all to those that came out to VTACO! Congratulations to Cave Spring A for winning first place! Along with Blacksburg and Cave Spring B, they qualify for PACE NSC! I hope everyone had a great time, and we hope to see you on our campus again later this month when we run our mirror of SCOP Novice! Stats will be posted up later this week. Thank you again!
