formal announcement: Ok State's L.L. Lewis Cup

Post by orangecrayon »

Dear Coaches,

The Oklahoma State University College Bowl team is pleased to announce our upcoming NAQT tournament, the L.L. Lewis Cup: Naming Rights Not For Sale (formerly known as the OSU High School Invitational), scheduled for Saturday 24 September 2005 on the OSU-Stillwater campus.

Round-robin preliminary matches will begin Saturday morning at 10 a.m. Teams are guaranteed at least eight matches, depending on the field size. Single elimination rounds will be played at the end of the day. All matches will be untimed and will use the NAQT tossup-bonus format. If enough teams enter, large and small school divisions will be formed.
The entry fee is $65 for the first team from each school and $50 for each additional team. Teams will be assessed a $15 discount for bringing a working buzzer system. In addition, a $10 discount per school will be assessed if registration and payment are received by 22 August 2005. When registering, please indicate the number of teams you will be bringing, approximate school size (OSSAA classification is sufficient for Oklahoma schools) and whether you will be bringing a buzzer system. Registration information will be accepted until midnight on 20 September 2005; registration by e-mail is sufficient. Copies of the question set, IS-53A, are available for purchase as well. Please let us know in advance if you wish to do so, so that we can make enough copies available.

Checks may be made payable to OSU College Bowl and must be received by 24 September. Driving directions will be sent at the end of the registration period, along with hotel listings if needed. All of this information will also be available on our Web site, http://cwc.50g.com/osu/.

Questions, bribe attempts, etc. can be sent to myself or to the ATD, James Cullin.

thanks,

OSU's fall tournament, now known as the L. L. Lewis Cup, came and went without any major hitches.
We had 15 teams in Stillwater Saturday. After nine preliminary rounds, the top eight large school teams and the four small school teams were seeded in single elimination brackets.
Small school bracket:
(1) Drummond d. (4) Covington-Douglas, 385-40
(3) Hilldale d. (2) Kremlin-Hillsdale, 250-145
Small school finals: (1) Drummond d. (3) Hilldale, 255-115

The large school bracket was harder to seed, as three teams finished prelim play with identical 7-1 records and another three finished 3-5.
Large school bracket unofficial results:
quarterfinals:
(1) Edmond Santa Fe d. (8) Edmond Home School B, 505-35
(2) Edmond Home School A d. (7) Stillwater A, 310-220
(3) Booker T. Washington d. (6) Sapulpa B, 425-125
(4) Edmond Memorial A d. (5) Sapulpa A, 415-105
semifinals:
(4) Edmond Memorial A d. (1) Edmond Santa Fe, 245-140
(2) Edmond Home School A d. (3) Booker T. Washington, 320-260
third place game:
(3) Booker T. Washington d. (1) Edmond Santa Fe
finals:
(2) Edmond Home School A d. (4) Edmond Memorial A
(sorry folks, can't locate the scoresheets from the last round at the moment, although I think I know where they are...)

The top three individual scorers were Shannon R. from Drummond, Adam K. from Edmond Home School A and Jay K. from Booker T. Washington.

Thanks to Angelo and Jessica from the University of Tulsa's academic team for coming down and helping out.

Since I was the reader for all of Edmond Homeschool A's playoff matches, I can tell you that they are a very well-rounded team.

As for their playoff scores, in the semi-finals against Booker T. Washington, the match went back and forth. Booker T. led by 25 at the half, but Homeschool sealed the victory on the penultimate tossup. In the finals, Edmond Homeschool A defeated Edmond Memorial A on the very last tossup.

Finals Score
(2) Edmond Homeschool A 305 defeated (4) Edmond Memorial A 280
