New England (CT, MA, VT, NH) 2015-16

Post by vinteuil »

Hi everyone!

This school year, I'll be updating a calendar (this thread) of tournament dates in, nearby, and otherwise of interest to the New England area—Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, and New Hampshire (plus, hypothetically, Rhode Island and Maine). I'll try to keep it up-to-date enough to be emailable or linkable for the benefit of teams and coaches that don't otherwise follow the forums. If I miss your event, or if you want to claim or discuss a date or timeframe, that's that this thread is for—post away!

Post also in this thread if you have tentative plans to host an event but aren't sure yet where it will go; this will help us avoid scheduling pileups or conflicts. Thanks!

I don't represent them, but I'm sure that Delaware Valley (Matamoras, PA, right at the point where NJ, NY and PA meet and less than an hour's drive on I-84 from New England) would like me to claim October 17 for their NAQT IS set tournament, which will draw teams from upstate NY, northern PA, metro NYC, and New England due to its convenience to all four areas.

Lexington would like to claim December 19th for the main site of our housewrite LIMIT. We'll probably also be hosting something in March or so, announcement forthcoming.

Due to conflicts with other tournaments, LIMIT will now be held on December 5th instead of December 19th.

I don't know for sure, although I would guess at least the Hanover one will be in NHQBL format which would mean Academic Hallmarks questions. Hanover coach Bill Murphy could give you an official answer. His email is william (dot) Murphy (at) hanovernorwichschools (dot) org.

Darien would like to tentatively claim April 16 for its yet to be named tournament. We plan on including a "nationals" division using a collegiate set. More info to come later.

Edit: Our advisor cannot do the 16th. We are exploring a January 30 date.

We would be happy to have a season-ending NAQT event in Massachusetts (but ideally the state championship proper would be earlier, in March or April, so that teams qualifying from it have a chance to register for HSNCT).

MIT would like to reserve February 27 for a winter tournament. We'll be mirroring the CALI set.

We would also probably be interested in bidding to host NAQT MA States again this year.

Since Darien is moving their tourney date, we would be open to hosting states on April 19. To my knowledge, out of state teams can come to the event but we will contact NAQT about this before we open up registrations. In addition, we would need a lot more moderators for this tourney to make it a possibility (since AMSA would like to enter a team as well).

Do you know if this tournament is/might potentially be open to non-Massachusetts teams? I believe NAQT's policy is that out-of-state teams are allowed (at the host's discretion) to attend another state's championship if their own state does not have one (and NH does not).

Check in with us ([email protected]) before you make any travel plans. I would like to set up an actual New Hampshire championship this spring if at all possible.
I believe NAQT's policy is that out-of-state teams are allowed (at the host's discretion) to attend another state's championship if their own state does not have one.
(Our policy is that out-of-state teams need permission from NAQT- the host in the neighboring state might not know about ongoing plans for a future championship in the traveling team's home state.)
