You guys should really try to change the date of this tournament. Richard Montgomery has already claimed March 28th to be used as a date for holding their tournament, HERMES. There have already been multiple sign ups for that tournament, as can be seen here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=16922

There's a date claim thread for tournaments in the DC/Maryland/VA region right here: viewtopic.php?f=48&t=15968

Excellent news! Our tournament has been Gold Certified by PACE (meaning that the top 20% of the teams in the tournament, rounded up to the nearest integer, will qualify for the PACE NSC, the national high school quizbowl championship, on June 6th-7th).

This tournament happened, with Richard Montgomery finishing first, Centennial A 2nd, George Mason 3rd and Centennial B 4th. Playoff and prelim stats are both up, although it would be nice to get combined stats (Michael?). Mostly, though, I wanted to post to say how well this tournament was run for a first ever effort by Johns Hopkins. To get 10 rounds done before 5 and to keep rooms together enough to never have more than a ten minute wait between rounds was very impressive and an excellent example of what others should strive towards when attempting to run a tournament. Thank you so much, Hopkins, and you should host more tournaments into the future. Tournaments like this will get teams who don't show up often (Annnapolis, Easton, Calvert, Whitman, etc.) to continue to return and will really help expand the circuit and the stature of quiz bowl in the Baltimore/DC area compared to the far inferior questions of It's Academic.

I would like to agree with Ben about a very well run tournament.
Centennial A and B and most of my other teams only had freshmen and sophomores. This event allowed one team of underclassmen to qualify for HSNCT and 2 of my underclassmen teams for PACE. This cannot usually happen in the very high-powered circuit we have in the Maryland-DC area.
We as a community should designate "novice-level" tournaments, like this turned out to be mostly (excepting RM, Henderson, Whitman, George Mason of course) so that our talented younger players and new teams to quizbowl can compete evenly.
Maybe one idea is to have a tournament for teams with (or expected to be with) a PPB under 21 (like this one was with the exception of RM who were staffed by "A" level masters).

Results can be found here: http://www.hsquizbowl.org/db/tournaments/2918/
Overall results, as requested, can be found here: http://www.naqt.com/stats/tournament-te ... nt_id=6450

Results:
With an undefeated record the entire day, Richard Montgomery took 1st place; Centennial A took 2nd, George Mason was 3rd, and Centennial B placed 4th. These teams all qualify for the PACE NSC; the first three also qualify for the NAQT HSCNT.

Congratulations as well to the top 8 individual scorers:

1) Gabe G, Richard Montgomery
2) Julian M, Catonsville
3) William A, Walt Whitman
4) Ben K, Richard Montgomery
5) Jarman T, George Mason
6) Christopher C, Centennial D
7) Mohammed K, Centennial C
8) Alex S, Henderson

Emails will be sent to your coaches, and book prizes will be mailed to your school.

Since this was our first time hosting a tournament, we would greatly appreciate any feedback-- please either post here (as some already have; thank you!), or send me an email at [email protected]

Thank you all for coming out, and we look forward to seeing you in the future.
