NAQT Connecticut State Championship @ Darien (4/11)

The Darien High School Quiz Bowl Team is pleased to announce that it will be hosting the 2nd Annual NAQT Connecticut State Quiz Bowl Championship on April 11, 2015.

Location: This tournament will take place at Darien High School, 80 High School Ln, Darien, CT 06820

Time: Registration will run from 8:00-8:45. We will have a moderator meeting at 8:30 and an opening meeting with everyone at 8:45. Matches will start at about 9, and the tournament should run until about 5 p.m.

Question Set: We will be using NAQT IS-146. All teams will receive a copy of the question set after the tournament.

Tournament Format: This will be determined once we know what the field size is. We hope to give all teams at least nine games. We will be using NAQT rules, and rounds will consist of 20 tossups and the corresponding bonus questions.

Nationals Qualification: The top 15% of the tournament will qualify for the 2015 NAQT HSNCT. At least one team that has not already qualified must qualify at this event, so if all teams in the top 15% have already qualified, the highest placing team that has not yet qualified will do so.

Registration: The free structure will be:
$70 for the first team from a school
$65 for each additional team
-$5 for each working buzzer system
-$10 for each capable moderator
$12 per pizza (see “Lunch” below)

To register, please email [email protected] with the number of teams, number of buzzer systems, and number of moderators you will be bringing, in addition to the number of pizzas you will be ordering. All figures are flexible until April 4.
Payment: Payment is expected on the day of the tournament in either cash or a check made out to Darien High School (more details on checks later).

Lunch: As there are no eating options within a short distance of the school, we will be ordering pizzas. Teams can choose to purchase pizzas in advance for $12/pie or bring their own lunch.

Field Cap: We have a hard cap of 24 teams.

This tournament is now a gold qualifier for the PACE NSC, meaning the top 20% of the field (3-4 teams right now) will qualify for the PACE NSC! We will be taking registrations for another week, so please get those in if you have not done so already! A logistics email will be going out this coming weekend, or Monday the 6th at the latest.

Darien A defeated E.O. Smith in a single-game final after both teams finished 4-1 in the playoffs. Greens Farms A finished 3rd. All three teams should qualify for both the NAQT HSNCT and PACE NSC. Stats will be up shortly.
