CATT X (Johns Creek, GA) - 12/13/14

Post by niravilango »

Chattahoochee High School is pleased to announce the 10th Annual CATT (Chattahoochee Academic Team Tournament).

The questions this year will be a mirror of the UMD set produced by the University of Maryland.

As usual, our tournament will be held on the 2nd Saturday in December (12/13/2014) at Chattahoochee's campus in Johns Creek (5230 Taylor Road, 30022).

Depending on the final field size, each team will play 5-7 preliminary rounds of divisional pool play. We are not planning on any field cap, as historically the CATT has had fields of over 60 teams. Then, also depending on the final field size and the number of moderators we have available, there will be either a large (32-team+) single-elimination playoff, or a re-bracketed round robin playoff to determine final placements.

Trophies/plaques will go to the top 8 teams.

The cost will be $65 for one team (+ $60 for each team after the first). Registration payment can be brought in the day of the tournament or mailed ahead of time. There will be a 5 dollar discount for one working buzzer system. You may enter up to 4 teams total.

If you are interested in attending or have any questions, please post here or email me at [email protected]

:w-hat: ?

Why the unusual change? Is there a reason for the decision?

Also, we still need a W-9 from you guys so we can send our check in.

Thanks!

We are playing in accordance with GATA rules, which many of our teams are accustomed with. We feel that allowing five players at a time gives more kids the opportunity to play while not diminishing the level of competition. As always, you can play with less than five.

I will remind my sponsor to get on it for the W-9. Email me if you have any more questions. Thanks!

Thank you for signing up for the tenth edition of the Chattahoochee Academic Team Tournament, being held on our campus in Johns Creek, GA on December 13, 2014. We are just under two weeks till the big day! The field is currently at 55 teams with a cap at 56, so there is a strong likelihood we will have a full field. Here's some final information about the tournament.

Important Info:

- Morning check-in will take place at a table in the front lobby of the school from 7:35 to 8:20. You will be provided with all necessary materials at that table. Please be there on time! Currently, Chattahoochee HS is undergoing renovations that will make coming through the normal "front" doors of the school impossible. We suggest that you park in the "juniors" parking lot in front of the music wing of the school and then enter through the side doors next to the main offices. You would get to this parking lot by going down Taylor Road, taking a left at the main crossroads (where the first Chattahoochee HS sign is), and then taking the first right into the parking lot.

- Please call me in the morning (provided over email) if you are running late for the tournament. It is imperative that we start on time and know that each team is attending. If you cannot reach me, please contact Sahrudh (who is running the registration table) (provided over email).

- Round 1 will begin at 8:45 sharp. We will have a short 3-minute introductory meeting in the cafeteria at approximately 8:35 and then teams will be asked to go their rooms. Please be in your rooms on-time.

- There are 7 preliminary rounds. Lunch will be served on-campus after Round 6 and there will be lunch order forms available for you and your team. Please make sure that you stay on campus for lunch because there will not be enough time to leave and then make it back for the Round 7 preliminary game.

- Your team is guaranteed 7 rounds of play, in order to provide the most experience to each team. We believe that it is important for teams to maximize their playing opportunities at each tournament they attend. Please do not leave the tournament after 6 rounds! Again, there is still one preliminary round after lunch.

- Remember to bring your checks and buzzers (if you said you were bringing them! We have received a few early checks, but it is perfectly acceptable to bring the check the day of the tournament. Make sure you have the correct amount! If you still need an invoice, I would be happy to provide you with one so email me.

Format:

- 5 players at a time (you can play with less) and substitutions in between rounds only

- 20 tossups and 20 bonuses, with 15 point powers, 10 point regulars, and no penalty for an incorrect response

- You have 5 seconds to buzz after a question is dead, 5 seconds to begin an answer after you buzz, and 5 seconds to confer on each bonus part or designate another player to begin an answer

- No bounce-backs on bonuses

There will be 7 prelims, after which 32 teams will advance to a single-elimination playoff. Round 1 will begin at 8:45. Lunch will begin at 12:15. Round 7 will begin at 1:20. The Round of 32 (Round 8) will begin at 2:15. We hope to conclude the tournament by 5:00.

We are still a few short on readers! If you can provide a reader, it would really help us out. Please email me if you can do so. Thanks!
