Triton Spring IV @ UCSD (05/24/2014) [BHSAT]

Post by Jason Cheng »

UCSD Quiz Bowl is pleased to announce:

Triton Spring IV

LOCATION: UC San Diego Campus, 9500 Gilman Dr., La Jolla, CA 92093
We are most likely using our usual spot at the Muir Humanities and Social Sciences Building. As the date approaches we will send out finalized, detailed instructions, both by contact email and through the HSQuizBowl thread.

DATE: The tournament will be held on Saturday, May 24. Please note that this is one week later from the date announced earlier in the year, and on Memorial Day Weekend, as well as PACE-NSC weekend.
Check-in begins at 8:00 am, and rounds should begin around 9 am, ending no later than 6 PM. Schedules will be distributed at check-in.

FORMAT: The tournament will be a mirror of Yale's BHSAT XXIII. Matches will consist of 20 pyramidal tossups and up to 20 bonuses. We will adhere for the most part to traditional ACF rules.

ELIGIBILITY: All high school students are welcome to attend.

PRICING STRUCTURE:
Base fee = $80 for one team, $70 per team after the first

Discounts will be given as follows:
-$10 for each fully-functional buzzer system (must have at least four working buzzers on both sides)
-$10 for traveling distances over 100 miles, according to Google Maps
-$10 moderator discount
-$40 per team for schools that have not competed in a decent, mACF-style or NAQT tournament in the past 2 years (schools that claim this discount have no minimum fee).
Minimum fee = $60/team

Cash or check acceptable. Please make checks payable to: San Diego Quizbowl. Please do not make a check out to any other person or entity. Checks or cash will be due at the start of the tournament during registration. Should your team not be able to provide the payment at this time, and would like to pay their registration fee in a means other than in person during check-in, please contact the Tournament Director at [email protected] to make the proper arrangements.

REGISTRATION: The tournament directors are Jason Cheng and Vicky Hwang. If you are interested in attending or have any questions, please send an email to [email protected] OR reply to this thread with the following information:

1) Your school's name
2) The number of teams you are bringing
3) The number of buzzer systems you will bring
4) Any moderators you have to offer
5) Price you are expecting to pay, after subtracting relevant discounts.
6) Emergency contact information

Our current field cap is more or less 24 teams; however, this number is subject to change as we receive more information on our available resources.

Updates about the tournament will be sent out through contact email, the http://www.hsquizbowl.org forum post, and http://www.socalquizbowl.org. Please contact tournament directors Vicky Hwang and Jason Cheng at [email protected] if you have any questions. We look forward to an exciting day of quiz bowl!

Congratulations to Westview A for defeating Arcadia 400-280 in the finals to take first place. Final champs standings are:

1st) Westview A (10-0)
2nd) Arcadia (9-1)
t-3rd) North Hollywood (7-2)
t-3rd) La Jolla A (7-2)

Full stats can be found here: http://www.hsquizbowl.org/db/tournaments/2247/

I'd like to thank all the staffers who helped us out. I also want to apologize for the low number of rounds today; some miscommunication with the facilities office coupled with an unfortunate drop in the afternoon forced us into very restrictive schedules and brackets.

Thank you to every team who came out to play today! It was very enjoyable watching teams play Yale's great question set.
