HSAPQ Plans for 2014-15

Post by Mewto55555 »

Hey, all. The following is some information regarding HSAPQ's plans for the coming season:
  • HSAPQ will not be writing the National History Bowl sets next year. An announcement on the production of questions for NHBB will be forthcoming from Dave Madden later this month.
  • HSAPQ will be writing a regular 20/20 tournament set for invitational use, NASAT, and a series of state series packets out of which will be drawn our VHSL material as well as several other regional/state championship tournaments.
  • Our writing rates have now increased to $5 for a tossup, $3 for a bonus or a calculation directed part, and $1 for a non-calculation directed part.

Further elaboration, especially about our state series:
  • Our state series will be continuing in 2015 in California, New York, Washington DC, North Carolina, Maryland, and Massachusetts.
  • We are looking to expand to other states without an existing state championship structure. We are already confirmed for Iowa and are looking at several further possibilities. The same questions will continue to be used for non-HSAPQ-operated state tournaments in Michigan and Virginia.
  • In states that already have a good (NAQT or otherwise) state tournament, these sets will be available for use as regular invitationals. The regionals set is somewhat easier than a normal high school tournament, and the states set is somewhat harder (but not as hard as a high school national), so hosts looking for such sets should contact us.
  • Most importantly: All HSAPQ state tournaments will take place on February 28, 2015, and all regionals on January 31. This is intended to make avoiding conflicts with these tournaments as easy as possible. The use of the set for simple invitationals can happen on any date, but using the same dates is encouraged, since this will minimize the issue of ineligible out-of-state teams.
  • We are also producing our usual ACF-format invitational set next year, and can take orders for that at any time.

What is the status on the HSAPQ regional events? I haven't heard anything about this in months.

Will they be using the 8-8-8 format (Which I found annoying) like last year?
