US History Bee - DC Regional at Anderson House on Thurs. 4/3

Post by Great Bustard »

NHBB in conjunction with the Society of the Cincinnati is pleased to announce that we will be running a US History Bee site at Anderson House (2118 Massachusetts Ave NW, Washington, DC) on Thursday afternoon, April 3 from 4:15pm-7:30 pm. This is a three round, afterschool event, open to all high school and middle school students, though all play in a combined division. The cost is $20 to compete, but includes free food at a reception afterwards, and a chance to play a US History tournament in a site of true US Historical importance. And it's also a really impressive Gilded Age mansion. Anderson House will not be hosting Nationals matches this year, but they have graciously provided their space for this unique event. I will direct it, and it will run according to US History Bee format and rules, available at http://www.ushistorybee.org. Further details are available on the tournament website at: http://www.ushistorybee.org/events/anderson/ See http://www.societyofthecincinnati.org/a ... house/tour for pictures of Anderson House, including the rooms we'll be playing in. Also, the set of questions features 3 rounds of 30 questions each in the prelims, plus a 2 stage final. The set is written by HSAPQ, and is comparable to a C Set or B Set National History Bee Regional though of course, it's all US History. I would say the set is certainly accessible for middle schoolers up to a challenge.

Please register by following the link to the tournament and clicking "Register Here!" The tournament is open to the first 60 students who register, there is no limit to how many a school may bring. Students who finish in the top half will qualify for the National Championships (conveniently in Arlington, VA on Friday April 25) where there is a $5000 prize for the champion! For further questions, contact me at [email protected]. Thanks - hope many DC area students can join us!
