US Geography Olympiad - National Median Qualifying Scores

The official national median scores on the National Qualifying Exam for the 2013-2014 United States Geography Olympiad have been computed.
They are as follows:

A Set
Open: 36.5 (2 people took exam, high score was 49 from Dr. Neil Boland of South Fork High School, Stuart, FL at Florida State Championships)
Varsity: 44 (65 students took exam, high score was 97 from Anton Karpovich of IMSA, Aurora, IL at Illinois State Championships)
Junior Varsity: 39.5 (44 students took exam, high score was 95 from Akhil Rekulapelli of Stone Hill Middle School, Ashburn, VA at Capitol Region Championships)

B Set
Open: 52 (1 person took exam, high score was 52 from Rick Murphy, a parent, at Quad Cities)
Varsity: 54 (95 students took exam, high score was 100 from Anton Karpovich of IMSA, Aurora, IL at Northern Illinois)
Junior Varsity: 46 (86 students took exam, high score was 91 from Adam Prusakowski of Spring Grove Area High School, Spring Grove, PA at Pennsylvania State Championships)

C Set
Open: 61 (12 people took exam, high score was 85 from Bob Harris, NHBB Board of Advisors, at Northern New Jersey)
Varsity: 46 (185 students took exam, high score was 100 from David Yuan of Lexington High School, Lexington, MA at Boston Area Fall)
Junior Varsity: 38 (156 students took exam, high score was 98 from Abhinav Kurada of AMSA, Marlborough, MA at Boston Area Fall)

Some notes:
1. The full list of qualified students will be posted to http://www.geographyolympiad.com by Friday.
2. Any student who finished above the median score at their site qualifies automatically.
3. Any student who didn't finish above the median score at their site, but was above the national median score for their version of the exam within their division qualifies for Nationals on that basis. We will be contacting their schools (or these students if we have their direct email address) within the next few days.
4. The deadline to sign up for USGO Nationals is April 7. This may be extended a week, but if you know you are coming (the date is April 25 in Arlington, VA) please sign up as soon as possible at: http://www.geographyolympiad.com/regist ... pionships/
5. We will be looking to launch a middle school division of USGO next year, and we have a number of ideas to expand the number of students who take the Qualifying Exam next year. We'll be working on this over the summer.
6. For 2014-2015, expect somewhat easier versions of the National Qualifying Exam. Ideally, our national median scores would be around 60-65 or so. We'll work on making the Qualifying Exam a bit more accessible.
7. For the Open Division, we do anticipate running a final qualifying exam around 12pm on Friday, April 25 (probably during the lunchbreak of the US History Bee). There's also the chance we may just make this open to anyone interested competing, at least for 2014. We'd like to have about 24 people compete in the Open Division at Nationals, and will be reaching out to people interested in competing. Our first priority is making sure we have sufficient readers for the student division, but we expect we will be able to get about 24 people in for this through various measures. More information on this within the next week or two.
8. Any exams taken after March 15 do NOT count towards the National Median Scores. These also include the various students who have been taking the USGO exam independently throughout the year.
