Capistrano Valley High Quizbowl is pleased to announce our second ever tournament, SMITH Invitaitonal, taking place at Capistrano Valley High on March 22nd, 2014.

This tournament will feature both a Varsity "Upper" division and a Novice "Lower" division, so please specify on your form which division each team would like to participate in. Please keep in mind that we will require a minimum of 6 novice teams to run a novice division, and that teams competing in the novice division will not be eligible to qualify for HSNCT--only teams competing in the upper Varsity division will have the chance to qualify teams. According to NAQT qualifier rules, the top 15 percent of teams will qualify for HSNCT from this tournament. If we receive fewer than 6 teams in either division, the tournament will be combined and run with no divisions.

Novice teams are defined as consisting of players with one year or less of experience in Quizbowl.
The field cap is currently at 30, but will increase based on registration.

Location: Capistrano Valley High 26301 Via Escolar, Mission Viejo, California, 92692
Parking: Upper parking lot
Registration: Mall (Auditorium), Matches take place in the H wing and E wing.

Time: Check-in begins at 8:00 AM, Matches begin at 9:00 AM

Format: Each un-timed round will consist of 20 questions excluding computational, with round robin prelim brackets in the morning and round robin playoff brackets in the afternoon.

Food: Lunch can be found on Marguerite, and across the 5 Freeway.

Pricing:
$80 Dollars first team
$70 Dollars for each subsequent team

Discounts:
-$10 for each working buzzer set
-$15 for each full-time moderator
-$10 for each scorekeeper
-$5 per 75 miles traveled, calculated by Google Maps from your school to CVHS.
-$40 for the first team from a school that has played one or fewer tournaments in the past two years.
Minimum of $30 dollars per team.

SMITH Invitational is now Gold Certified by PACE NSC. Top 20% of teams in the varsity division will qualify for PACE, in addition to the top 15% for HSNCT.
