NCATA State Championship @ Early College (4/5/14)

Post by Mewto55555 »

HSAPQ, in conjunction with the NCATA, is pleased to announce our NCATA State Championship at Early College at Guilford on April 5, 2014! This tournament will feature the top finishing teams at each of the regional tournaments at Wake Forest and UNC-Chapel Hill on March 1.

Both the regional events and the NCATA State Championship will use HSAPQ’s 8-8-8 format: a first and third period of 8 powermarked tossups followed by a one-part bonus read to the team whose player correctly answered the tossup, and a second period of 8 directed bonus parts, 4 for each team. This format is designed to provide quicker-moving games to keep new teams engaged, piquing their interest in quizbowl and drawing them to regular local events.

To register for your nearest regional tournament, or to find out more information, please visit http://www.ncquizbowl.com/!

Emails went out today with logistic updates and requests for any unconfirmed teams to confirm or decline. Anyone who thinks they've qualified but haven't gotten at least two emails about it should let us know.

At yesterday's NCATA State Championship, 11 teams participated in a round-robin schedule. Congratulations to Raleigh Charter for finishing in 1st place with a 10-1 record! Guilford A finished in 2nd place with a 9-2 record. (Note: the two teams were tied with a 9-1 record before a final match won by Raleigh Charter 205-195).

3rd place went to Guilford B, and 4th place went to Enloe A. Thank you and congratulations to all teams who participated!
