MA Quizbowl Championship -- Harvard Regional (3/8/14)

Post by Mewto55555 »

HSAPQ, in conjunction with the Massachusetts Quizbowl Championship Association, is pleased to announce our Massachusetts eastern regional tournament at Harvard University on Saturday, March 8, 2014! The top 6 teams from this tournament will qualify for the Massachusetts Quizbowl Championship at MIT on April 5.

Both the regional events and the Massachusetts Quizbowl Championship will use HSAPQ’s 8-8-8 format: a first and third period of 8 powermarked tossups followed by a one-part bonus read to the team which correctly answers the tossup, and a second period of 8 directed bonus parts, 4 for each team. This format is designed to provide quicker-moving games to keep new teams engaged, piquing their interest in quizbowl and drawing them to regular local events.

I sent an email to the address on the website about a week ago, but it hasn't yet been replied to.

Could you clear up the eligibility specifications for these tournaments? The website is very clear that all sorts of schools, public or private, are invited, but the (lack of) restriction to Massachusetts schools is more nebulous, and different parts of the website suggest different things. Are the Massachusetts Quiz Bowl Championship tournaments closed to Massachusetts schools, or open to out-of-state schools such as ours?

Portsmouth Christian would be elated to participate in these HSAPQ events, and, precluding any conflicts of scheduling or funding, would surely register and attend. We don't have an analogous league up in New Hampshire, and are forced to travel out of the state for any pyramidal events.

Sorry, it is a state championship for Massachusetts, so no schools from other states are eligible to participate.

Hi! I just wanted to pass along a question that was asked by my former HS quiz bowl coach, that perhaps you could answer? Are these tournaments affiliated in any way with the PACE-NSC or the HSNCT? As in, can you qualify for either tournament through this?

Only tournaments that use NAQT questions are HSNCT qualifiers. (That being said, we of course welcome wildcard bids from teams with a history of strong performance on non-NAQT questions.)

While this tournament has not yet officially been affiliated with PACE NSC, I have no reason to think that it will not be.

I will be mailed the score sheets, I will scan them and upload them where other HSAPQ folks can tally up the stats.

However, I have not received any score sheets.

There is obviously no hurry, but I am just wondering why the stats from the West Regional are out, but those of East Regional haven't yet been tallied. Have they even been mailed yet?
