PACE is currently seeking bids to host the 2013 NSC. The tournament date is under discussion. If you wish to submit a bid on behalf of your institution, please include:

1. Number of total game rooms available.
2. Ability to provide all game rooms in one building or a very closely situated group of buildings. Please indicate whether or not one building would be possible at your site.
3. Number of auditoriums available and their approximate capacity.
4. Number of house and otherwise local staffers available.
5. Proximity to local airports.
6. Proximity to local affordable hotels.
7. Public transportation options.
8. Earliest date when game rooms can be reserved.
9. Weekends around the usual high school national championship range of May and June game rooms would be available.
10. List of large tournaments hosted at this venue in the past.
11. Whether or not we would be able to reserve rooms for the Friday preceding the tournament for set-up purposes.
12. The earliest rooms will be available on Saturday and Sunday, as well as the latest in the evening we will be able to use the rooms.
13. Whether or not we will be able to lock rooms in order to safely leave buzzers set up on Friday and/or Saturday night and be able to get those rooms unlocked in a timely fashion the next morning. If someone on your team physically has or can easily get keys to the relevant buildings, let us know that as well.
14. Proximity to food--will these food options be open on weekends and during the summer?
15. Availability of reliable wireless Internet access, which will be needed for at least the control room staff.
16. Any other information that may be relevant, such as scheduled construction that could cause a lot of noise and/or travel difficulties or summer classes that we would need to avoid disturbing.
17. Contact person for this bid.

Bids should be sent to Matt Weiner, the director of the 2013 NSC, at mattweiner.vcu at gmail dot com any time between now and August 3, 2012. Thank you very much for your interest.

We're extending this deadline to Friday, August 8 so that interested parties have more time to find out about room reservation possibilities. If you're really interested in hosting but would need longer to inquire about rooms, please feel free to let us know and send in the rest of your information. Thanks!

I guess this question would only apply to next year since the deadline has passed anyways, but is geography an important consideration for high school Nationals hosting (like for collegiate hosting)?
I know at some point my old team at ASU asked about hosting ACF Nationals but we were told that we needed to be located within driving distance of as many teams as possible, which automatically excludes all locations substantially west of the Mississippi River. You don't seem to have any such restriction on NSC hosting bids, though. Are high school teams usually more able to afford plane tickets than college teams? Just wondering - I wouldn't think so, but it would be really nice to have a western-location Nationals of some kind once in a while if that's the case...

Accessibility to local teams is one of the factors we consider when discussing and narrowing down bids. A substantially western NSC site would be inconvenient for all but maybe 5-10 teams who would consider attending, so it's unlikely we would choose such a site unless it were vastly better for our other needs than any other bids received. In order to find that out, we welcome all bids from interested parties, but sites in the Midwest, South, and Mid-Atlantic do have a considerable advantage simply because of quizbowl's geography.

Our initial host was unable to secure rooms, so we're actively investigating another bid. Hopefully we will have an announcement very soon.

We are able to announce that the tournament will be taking place on the weekend of 6/8-6/9.

The bid we initially chose unfortunately proved unable to secure room reservations. We are in the process of securing rooms from another university and hope to be able to make an announcement soon.

PACE apologizes for the delay in announcing this year's NSC site. Our top choice is the University of Maryland - College Park, and the tournament will be held there unless we face unexpected issues with securing room reservations. We opted to wait for a greater degree of certainty in room reservations lest we make an announcement and then have to change the site, adversely affecting teams who may have begun making plans. We hope to have full details on the definite location and date of the 2013 PACE NSC soon and thank you for your continued patience.
