Probable Vandy ABC XXIX date - April 16, 2005

I was just perusing the dates of college nationals and things like Easter and Parents Weekend and finals for us, and it seems like April 16 would be the most ideal weekend to hold ABC in the spring. Any problems/objections with that? If not, I'll make a preliminary claim for it, though they won't let us reserve rooms and stuff for at least another month.

Is there any thing that a quiz bowl team needs to do to get invited to this tournament or is it just register and get in?

The Kentucky Science Olympiad State Finals will be held at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green on Saturday, April 16. That will impact Apollo, DuPont Manual, Russell and possibly a few others Kentucky teams.

For all the weekends between the end of our spring break (March 13) and the end of classes (April 26), March 19 and April 2, 9, 23 are all definitely NOT possibilities for various reasons. That leaves March 26, which is Easter weekend, and the aforementioned April 16. Are teams willing to go to tournaments on the Saturday before Easter, or is that best left as an open date? Also, Mr. Woolley or other Kentucky folks, would the Science Olympiad keep you from coming or just weaken your teams? Thanks for any input.

Before-easter weekend is the ASCA state QB finals in Alabama, so that would count out pretty much all alabama teams (Indian Springs, LAMP, Covenant, Brindlee, etc etc etc)

Both Saturdays are OPEN for Georgia teams. April 23 is the State JV Tournament with March 18-19 as State Varsity Tournament.

As for Brookwood, probably we would not be interested in March 23 but might well come on April 16.

Based on a variety of feedback, I'm going to officially claim April 16 for ABC XXIX. It'll be a one-day tournament, and we'll get an announcement out once the schedules and reservations office lets us make the reservation.
