Spring Panther Academic Tournament (SPAT) on 3/24

Post by centraliacoach »

Hello coaches,

The Centralia Quizbowl team is excited to announce our first annual Spring Panther Academic Tournament (SPAT), on March 24th, 2012. We will be using questions written by Yale University’s quizbowl team. This will be a regular varsity tournament, so teams are allowed to bring all of their players, and teams are also encouraged to bring newer players on additional teams.

These questions will be pyramidal, similar to the style NAQT writes for parts of the MSHSAA state championship. The game format will be the national standard format of 20 tossups, with each tossup having a rebounding three part 30-point bonus question attached.

There will be an 18 team cap on the field, and teams are able to register on a first-come, first-served basis. If the field fills, teams should expect to play 10 games.

Our entry fees are as follows:

$60 for the first team a school enters into the field.
$50 for every additional team a school enters into the field.
-$5 for every functioning 8-person buzzer a team brings.

This tournament is being sanctioned by the Missouri Quizbowl Alliance, which is an organization that helps promote and direct quizbowl tournaments around the state. There are numerous other MOQBA-sponsored events being run in Central Missouri which you can find out about at their website, http://moqba.org/calendar/.

This tournament will also serve as one of the last qualifiers of the year for the 2012 PACE National Scholastics Championship, held on June 8th-9th at Washington University in St. Louis. This is the first time a national championship has ever been held in Missouri, so hopefully this will make it possible for a lot more teams to get the experience of attending a national championship.

To register, e-mail me at [email protected] with the number of teams and discounts you will be using.

We hope to see your team at Centralia for this late in the year chance to get a lot more playing time in before districts!
