The DAR High School Quizbowl Team is proud to announce the 2nd Annual Season Opening tournament to be held on August 27th, 2011 starting with registration at 8:30 am CST on the campus of KDS DAR School in Grant, AL. This tournament will be a NAQT national qualifying tournament on an “IS” set that will be named later. If there is enough interest (at least 6 teams), we are planning on having a junior varsity division (10th graders and below). All teams will be playing at least 6 rounds or more during the day and expected finish time will be no later than 5 pm CST unless we have a major problem.
Registration fees will start at 65 dollars and we will give a 5 dollar discount for “WORKING BUZZERS” (max of 2 per school) and 5 dollar discount for experienced staffers (max of 2 per school) and a 5 dollar discount for 2nd or more team from a given school.
We will be serving lunch for a small fee per individual due to the limited choices of fast food in the area. We will attempt to make accommodations for individuals with special dietary needs if prior notification is given.

I will almost definitely have a team or two there. Go ahead and pencil me in for two varsity and one jv. I'll let you know for sure as soon as possible - probably by the end of next week at the latest.

Thanks,

Lee

Norcross was hoping to make the trip over into Alabama, but the set conflicts with our county tournament. No biggie, next year!

Both of these tournaments (this one in late August and Gwinnett County in late September) happen before IS #109 ships (mid-October, first scheduled use at LIFT on 10/22), so there was nothing we could do to avoid this.

No problem at all. It just would have been cool to play some new teams and hear an NAQT set before county. Coach Dennis, I'm sure you guys will host a great tournament, and maybe we can attend next year.

Matt--

Hoover will be there, but #teams will have to wait until we get organized. Two varsity and a JV for sure, maybe two JV.

Glad to see you're back, Lee!

More teams should sign up for this. DAR always hosts a great tournament. I am pretty sure we completed 13 rounds and awards by 5 o'clock one time. Unfortunately, I won't be able to come up and read for this, Mr. Dennis.

Charlie it is like a sausage biscuit but you mix up the sausage with the biscuit mix then spoon them out like "drop" biscuits and let them bake.. pretty awesome stuff

Sorry I was a bit beat this afternoon/evening so is the recap
full stats found
http://darhslab.bravehost.com/DAR11FKO/ ... dings.html
Clarification Gadsden JV was an exhibition team and that is the reason for the difference in number of games
we ended up with 21 teams total

1st Place JPII Catholic HS A from Huntsville
2nd Place Ezell-Harding from Nashville
3rd Place Hume-Fogg A from Nashville

JV division

1st Place Ezell-Harding
2nd Place Hoover JV
3rd Place Hume-Fogg JV

Overall, it seems pretty smooth had a little later start at 9:15 and not 9 am but other than that and one buzzer problem really good to go.
I got positive feedback from everyone I talked to during the day and got some awesome help from
Owen Cooper
Brad Frick
Nathan Eldridge
Taylor Martin
Garrett Gamble
LIz Clark
Shannon Franks
Ashley Starr
Caleb Bray
Josh Rutshkey
Lee Henry
Leah Hitt
Kay Campbell and one of the parent from Lincoln County

I would really love to see more teams come to our next one in February if you can make it
