Forum-dwellers (esp. veteran coaches),
I'm bringing a team to HSNCT in late May and received this q from a parent: "Do you expect that as most of the boys are still minors you'll need a notarized letter authorizing you to take the boys?" I'm pretty sure I won't need written parental consent, given that we won't be leaving the country. If any of you more seasoned coaches could confirm this, though, I'd appreciate it. I'd hate to endure some airport fiasco.
Thanks!

Likewise, I've never had an issue with needing to produce any sort of document. Still, it might be a good idea to have whatever permission slips you're using at the ready.

It depends on where you teach. Ask your administration what is required. When I worked for Huntsville City Schools, I had to have a notarized permission form from each student just to travel down the street. Here at West Point, a generic parent-signed permission form will allow me to take them anywhere in the country.
Play it safe and ask.

Thanks for sharing your experiences, folks. I'll plan to bring the students' completed field trip permission slips with me; seems that should suffice
